11" x 17" commission of Ultra, the Multi-Alien; no backgrounds.  Reference for the character in case you need it:

Mile High Comics - MYSTERY IN SPACE (1951) #104 - Full Size Image

Please draw him in a flying pose facing the viewer similar to the Mystery in Space # 104 cover image

This is a character commission that I wouldn't have expected! I'm not familiar with him at all beyond knowing he existed though...

Fabulous! Great characterisation and love the variation in the textures and the name zapping!

It's fun to see your take on such an oddball DC character, JB! COOL!! -- But blasting your signature? Not cool, Ultra! ;-)

Ultra is one of those characters that could exist only at DC, much like Rex the Wonder Dog or Detective Chimp or Matter-Eater Lad.

Has Ultra been New 52-ized yet? I shudder to think what the result would be.

Not so sure of that! Doing the Mimic piece earlier this week, I had a brief thought about Ultra (knowing this one was on the List). Characters, as I define them, created by writers!!

...Yeah I guess that's true. I can't remember if the Mimic appeared before or after the Super-Adaptoid, who -- of course -- was the Marvel version of Amazo.

Mimic is one of those many Marvel characters who should've remained dead.

But even Mimic -- though he looks goofy -- isn't as...how to say this...as innately goofy or silly as the DC characters I mentioned, right down to their names.

Back in the day, Mark Gruenwald started a game of coming up with names for various Marvel characters if they had been members of the Legion of Superheroes.

Polaris would have been Make-Things-Stick-Together Lass, for instance.

(Of course, it was Mark who came up with the twin Legionnaires who were able to switch gender at will, Lad Lass and Lass Lad.)

I just fell of my chair! Funny! We used to enjoy playing that exact game.
