I have now gone 4 mouths without buying new comics. I have been buying new comics since 1978. Grocery stores, drug stores, then comic shops, and finally mail order.
I decided to stop for two reasons, I was not finding or enjoying any of the books from the big two, and the expense.
I am continuing to collect, filling in missing comics, art, and history. I actually don't miss getting my monthly box in the mail, or the junk they are putting out.
I am a recovering addict, and am doing fine.

This thread is going to start sounding like an AA meeting!"Hello, my name is John, and it's been ________ since I bought a comic book."

22 years this summer. My 'jumping off point' was the death of Harry Osborn. (I realized after typing this that I bought two issues of the PEANUTS comic book while visiting the Charles Schulz Museum a couple of years ago...but those were technically 'back issues'.)

John Young, your history echoes mine! I find i am buying the occasional old title when on sale via Comixology, but nothing new for ages.Walt`s Ragnarok and also Velvet, but both are sporadically released.

Outside of a few - JB's Star Trek, Walt Simonson's Ragnarok are my only two regulars and any other news ones are the rare one off books with an artist I enjoy - I get no new comics and have not for years. I do get a lot of collected editions of old stuff. I relish them. Have to wonder what happened to comics.

I buy Previews every month so I don't need to buy the new stuff. The last new stuff I purchased was a the Avengers/ Invaders oh and the Age of Ultron mini series. I have commited to getting the Secret Wars and Convergence mini series. I hope I won't be too disappoint. Beyond that nothing new on my plate. My collecting enjoyment is thru the back issue bins. I typically look for 50's,60's, and 70's I will occassionally include something in the 80's But that is it for me. The 90's onward is where I've drawn the line.

I still buy STAR WARS comics, JB's STAR TREK, RAGNAROK and the ANGRY BIRDS for my son. That's about it.

Haven't purchased a new comic since about 2004, around the time I started college. When Superman became unrecognizable to me...well, I guess I just couldn't do it anymore. Made the break from buying comics easier, anyway.

Nothing new off the rack since 1981.I do not consider New Visions a comic book. Although I have caught up on a ton of JB's work over the past year.

At the moment the only "new" books I pick up with any regularity is the Jack Kirby Collector and Savage Dragon.
I pick up anything new by JB also.
But picking up a new comic is not the only new experience one can have. Coming across material I have never seen before is also a new experience.
I have recently discovered a treasure trove of golden age comics that have lapsed into the public domain -- been having a blast going through that. Apparently, there were literally hundreds of comic book publishers and few comics made it past a 10 issue run.
Being exposed to something other than DC, Marvel, or Fawcett material is a new experience for me.
I have also recently borrowed from my local library a copy "The Simon & Kirby Library: Crime" and have also been having a blast with it. I have only seen some of this material in the TJKC. I love the amount of narrative and dialogue as well as the regular 6-panel-per-page story breakdown. I feel I'm actually reading as well as enjoying the art. I'm also getting introduced to a piece of American History.
