Earth 2 World's End 26

*The cover reminds me of JB's Superman 3.  Is this considered a "homage" cover and should the artist have put "after John Byrne" in his signature?

The "original" cover is certainly stronger, isn't it? I think that was one of the first Superman comics I bought.

(No new comics for me this week.)

I definitly prefer the original cover. Kirby really comes out in Darkseid's face. If I were framing one, I would want JB's.  That said, I don't know if I would say it is a deliberate swipe as much as an accidental homage.

JB's does a great job of giving you am idea of what's inside, with an
image that's easy to understand at a glance. Superman's costume is
off set from Darkseid's arm with the use of color. So, that glance really
draws your eye to it. It just pops. Also, your eye actually reads thruogh
the cover, using what John Romita Jr. Once mentioned to me as using
the letter "C" to flow through a panel or cover.

The new cover doesn't work as well, IMO. Compositionally it's a block.
This wouldn't be that big of a deal but the figures Darkseid is holding
are very close to the color as Darkseid himself. If you glance at the
image, it's all a jumble and doesn't catch your eye. You are in no way
drawn to the book from the rest of the titles, on the rack.

I also agree that some recognition should have been given to JB for
this re-imagining.

1) The newer cover's figure positioning is not as strong. Darkseid's face is obscured.
2) A big part of making something seem iconic is simplicity of vision. The newer cover (and costume designs) is about more is better. He's holding two figures instead of one. Darkseid and the heroes have more details to their costumes. Then you have all the different colors and effects going on with the photoshopped flames and such. It's too busy with information overload. The held figures get lost amidst the detail of everything else. The old cover has some subtle gradations in the colors but is kept simple so the foreground images are even more stark. The limp figure of Superman stands out against Darkseid

As far as new comics, I think it's just
Avengers: Ultron Forever: Alan Davis  in a largely self-contained mini-series so pretty much a given.

Amazing Spider-Man #17. The Ghost is one of my favorite villains.
