I would have found this annoying a few years ago, but now I barely care what Marvel does with their characters.
Note that this Iceman is the teen version from the X-Men plucked from the past. They do note that the older Bobby Drake is not out, which gives the awkward implication that homosexuality is a choice or that Iceman is heavily, heavily closeted, both of which are unappealing. Or this could be an indication that the timelost X-Men are from a different reality.
Bendis could have at least made the teen Bobby bisexual and said that the older Bobby never acted on that part of those feelings. That would have felt a smidgen less pandering.
Meh.
(If it needs to be stated, I have no problem with gay characters and would love to see more of them represented in comics, but I do have a slight issue with altering the established orientation of characters. And yes, I know there are a lot of gay men who saw a lot more action with women than I did in college.)

I can't help wondering if this all came out of vocal internet fandom who kept on insisting that Ice Man was gay because he had problems in his dating relationship with women. I think that there might have been fan fiction written about Ice Man being gay. And Bendis is a fan turned pro who is a huge X-Men fan.

----
To be fair, there's fan fiction about pretty much every X-Man character being gay.

I might be missing something, but where is this vocal fandom you speak of?

If you want to have a gay character, then create one. Changing a character with 50 years of history behind him is just lazy in my opinion. Nice play by Bendis as he leaves the title (read with sarcasm).
And, it doesn't matter if this is "teen Iceman picked form out of time" and not the original Iceman, because in people's minds "Iceman is now gay".
I think this veers right into the "being gay is a choice" category.

Won't the outcome of Secret Wars erase all of this anyway? Who cares.

Because heterosexual males don't have any problems in dating relationships with women . . .

Never mind; different article squashed the first article I read.

Doesn't matter. Bendis is still a boring hack.

They're trying to catch up with DC, who have announced that post-Convergence, half of their characters are going to be either gay or bisexual. Including John Constantine and Catwoman being suddenly bisexual.

Bendis is the one who had Dr. Doom calling Ms. Marvel a "cow" and telling he to shut her "whore mouth," yes?

If Marvel were not already dead to me, I would care.
Changing a well established heterosexual male (pretty much since his creation when he double dated with Beast) to a homosexual just to appease the demand of the times to represent the LGBT community is just as offensive as not representing LGBT at all.
The reasonable thing to do would be to introduce a new character to create and do with as they please. I think it would be interesting to see how they handled a truly transgendered person in the community of mutants. This was kind of dealt with WAY back in the 1980's in the death throws of the Defenders when "Cloud" changed genders and began to fall in love with Moondragon.
If Bobby was boring, then just don't include him in any new stories.
