The shot of Thor smashing the tugboat was life altering. I have stared at that panel for what must amount to days since I bought the book when it was new.••• Now let me alter your life a bit more, hopefully for the better! When I drew that shot I was young and foolish, and it was all about the CHARACTERS. Go thru the pages of that "old stuff" some insist is "better," and count the number of times I sacrifice the clarity of the action for a big shot of the character. (I'll save you the trouble; there were a LOT of them.) Take that shot of Thor and the tugboat. Well, of Thor, really. Not much recognizable in the way of a tugboat, is there. Just a bunch of... stuff. And broken stuff, at that. Today, I'd back my camera off about a hundred feet and give a good, clear, detailed shot of the tugboat being cleft in twain by Thor's blow. Thor would be greatly shrunken, t'is true, but the POWER of the scene would be increased exponentially!

Ha! I'd like to see you try that!
Seriously….

LOVED those issues. Hard to believe I bought them 35+ years ago and I still got them in a box somewhere upstairs. That Red Sonja issue blew my 11 year old mind!

>>Have the JB issues of Marvel Team-Up and/or Marvel Two-In-One ever been collected in trade paperback form?<<
The Team-Up issues, yes:
Spider-Man Marvel Team-Up: Claremont and Byrne
The only omission is the Red Sonja issue, apparently due to the licensing rights expiring.

I was bitten by the Byrne bug with Marvel Team-Up 59, and I haven't been the same since. Thanks, John!
BTW, the Spider-Man/Red Sonja MTU is reprinted in this book.

One of my earliest comic book memories is the Spider-Man/Captain Britain team-up where they face Arcade's Murderworld.
Great stuff. Still haven't read all of those team-up's. It's kind of like keeping an ace in the hole.

Wow, that really brings back some memories. When those issues came out my family was going through some really tough financial times, (so bad we were actually living at my dad's place of business). Despite that, once a week my mom would drive me to the local book store down the street (which carried a huge assortment of comics) and she'd let me buy just one or two comics, because that's all we could afford. I still remember how happy I'd be when I see a new issue of Marvel Team-Up (I especially remember getting the Captain Britain, and Tigra/Kraven issues). I would read them all over and over, and stare at the awesome artwork. Those books got me through some pretty rough times.
JB's Marvel Team-Up books remain some of my favorite comics of all-time. I still have every one of the individual issues, as well as the trade paperback that collects them all (well almost all). They are also what I site as an example of how good comics used to be (and still could be).

The splash of Spider-man in the burning building still resonates so strongly with me....everything about it is perfection.

Those were some great stories and art. My "Golden Age".This scene has always stuck with me...••• There's Chris defeating my drawings again. Read all that copy aloud, timing it. Even allow that thoughts are "instantaneous." How much time is in the dialog, vs what's seen in the pictures? And, just to make it worse, a lot of that blah-blah is DESCRIBING what's in the pictures!!
