I must have kept buying until around issue 175. For some reason I thought JB might return. When did it lose me..almost right away. The stories that JB collaborated on had a sense of realism. After he left they just got very unreal , confusing and just plain silly.

Shortly after Paul Smith left I did to.  I have bought occasional issues since but none in almost 10 years.

I was there with highs and lows in my interest for the whole Claremont run (Came aboard during Claremont/Byrne/Austin and bought anything X-Men that came before, mostly in reprint starting with Lee Kirby, or back issues previous Byrne or Cockrum issues)
I continued to read for a few issues after Claremont but wasn't interested, i dropped the book, then came back bought a few of the issues i missed, followed the 2 or 3 JRjr issues around 300 then drppoed it again bought maybe an issues once a year or every txo years till the mid 90s but it was just an adfiction, my X-men didn't ecist anymore.

I think this was the last issue I bought, but I'd really lost interest in the book and its story line not long after Romita Jr quit drawing it. Never really cared for Silverstri's art so that didn't help either, but the writing on the book got worse and worse and my interest waned. After Byrne and Smith and Romita Jr the only artists I enjoyed on the book were Alan Davis and Barry Windsor-Smith and their issues were few and far between generally.

I disliked that too. There were too many artists with such drastic style differences filling in at that point. The characters had no visual continuity Barry Smith's stuff was way different from everyone else, I liked his work but it was jarring in the middle of a story to have him guest pencil.

I've always considered issue #175 to be a good stopping
point.
