For me it was this one. A friend gave me this one with 114 and 115. It was a while after publication. These made me love the X-men. I started collecting pretty soon after but it would be years before I got 116 through 120 something where I started collecting regular.

Got it, but this is what Andrew wrote in the initial thread:

And then he posted two comics, so I must have misunderstood.

References to the X-Men in The Champions series led to my buying a copy of X-Men #112

Edited my first post to include just one issue, to keep us all on topic. We now return to your regularly scheduled pics of fun X-Men covers.
It's interesting to see that I'm still the "newest" reader, coming in at the end of 1987, almost 30 years ago. The first issue I picked up #226 is about twice as big as when most of the other posters here, with a lot of you starting around #113, give or take.

My mom bought this for me. I had no clue about the original X-Men at the time.I remember reading it by the light of my tiny black and white tv ,with the sound turned down, while standing. It was past my bedtime and being in an upstairs bedroom any movement on the floor would create loud creaks downstairs alerting the parental units. I had to practically be a statue. Needless to say I was hooked, and when JB joined later on it was a major bonus.

The first one I bought off the rack from the local 7-11 was 209.i was about 10 at the time.
I had been reading the book for awhile from my friend's copies. He was older and had books back to the Cockrum years. But this was the start of my X-Men collection.

I started with Giant size X-men # 1. I still remember getting it after a trip to the dentist. It had a huge impact on me as a 10 year old. And when I thought it couldn't get any better J.B. showed up. Almost makes me wish I was 12 again.

This was my first. Sure it was a reprint- but it was new to me! Absolutely, LOVED it. The uniforms, the drama and Cyclops! He was the X-Men to me. Lee and Kirby spoke to me in a way that no other comic had up until then. I must have read this one at least 5 times in 2 days.
That lead me to hunt down back issues of X-Men at a 2nd hand book store. I managed to find Uncanny X-men from the first appearance of Vindicator up to that month's issue. X-mania was on the verge of breaking but the price of each back issue was about a quarter which wasn't too bad.
I read those current comics but I have to admit: I liked the "old X-Men" much much more. Sorry JB! That changed by the time Phoenix died but those reprints really started the ball rolling.

Like quite a few mine was issue #113,that cover had me hooked! In the U.K. the word `Canny` means smart or clever,so my kid`s logic when i`d glanced at previous issues thought `Uncanny` meant dumb or stupid! So i assumed it was a comedy title! Upon reading #113 i soon realised i was wrong!

X-Men 129, off a spinner rack at the PDQ up the block. I used to stop there on the way home from school. The nearest comic shop was a pretty long bike-ride from my house, so trips there were less frequent.

One day my friend's mom went to town with his older sister and the sister brought back THIS:
From the very cover I was hooked. Giant robots? Yes please! I was nine and I had been reading comics since I was four, but 90% of that was Batman or Spider-Man. I had never heard of the X-Men at all. But I would never forget them after that day. I was obsessed.
