My first issue was a UK reprint of issue 1 around 1975. Man did THAT cause 'issues' in our house.

It came in a comic that was half X-Men and half Silver Surfer. My mum had said one of us could have the X-Men comic and one could have the Silver Surfer comic, without realising they would be in the same comic. Tears, arguments, suggestions of buying two comics, ripping the comic in half, deals of one getting this one and somone else getting Mighty World of Marvel.

Can't remember how it was solved. Probably by my mum saying one of us gets it or no one gets it.

X-Men #213 part of the Mutant Massacre crossover. I really enjoyed Alan Davies' art. I'll admit that I didn't really get into X-Men. I think I prefer more street-level superheroes.

Apologies, mods, this should have been posted in the 'First' X-Men thread. Sigh.

Spanish reprint found years after being published in a spinner rack in Montevideo by my 8-year old self. The title's literal translation is "X-Patrol"

This one:

68 pages - two full X-Men adventures plus extras. That's how our comics used to be on a monthly basis. I had no idea who the X-Men were, but this book caught my eye.

I was there right from the (2nd) beginning!  This was an almost perfect comic-book--Len Wein and Dave Cockrum gave us a perfect little "graphic novel" that introduced clearly defined new characters that excited the reader with their untold potential.

Looking back, I realize that within a relatively short amount of time, we had this issue, Claremont and Cockrum (at his strongest) on the regular issues, GIANT-SIZE #2 that reprinted some incredible Roy Thomas/Neal Adams issues, and then John Byrne and Terry Austin came aboard in #108 to kick things into high gear!  No wonder X-MEN was THE biggest thing in comics!

Summer of 84, i found this, number 133, Wolverine lashes out against Hellfire goons.  I remember having read a story before
( a Cockrum story were Wolverine was hunting in the Woods) so I thought Cyclops was wearing a strange different helmet. I was hooked from there and sought out every back issue with JB.
Sorry can not upload the image.

Got it, but this is what Andrew wrote in the initial thread:

Andrew W. Farago wrote:... I thought it might be fun to have a look at the first issues that grabbed us...

And then he posted two comics, so I must have misunderstood.

••

No, I'd say the question was poorly presented.

The first issue that grabbed me was not difficult to find :

In France, at the time, the comics were compiled as magazines with different series, and the covers were re-made by french artist Jean Frisano.

SPECIAL STRANGE was the magazine with the X-MEN stories.

In this particular issue, there was UNCANNY X-MEN #101, along with Marvel Team-Up #44 & #45, and Marvel Two in One #16.

With the birth of Phoenix in there, how can you not love comics ?
I was not even 5 then, but I was hooked !

Some of these covers are a nice trip down memory lane. I read #209 repeatedly in my summer holidays in 1986, leading to a strange feeling of time dilation as I waited for #210 to come out.
