Mark - Seeing your battered copy of the first X-Men comic you bought off the rack just makes me smile.

Remember those comic book 3-packs they used to have in
places like K-MART and grocery stores? My first X-MEN
comics were issues #129 and #136 in one of those.
Couldn't tell you what the 3rd comic was, but it
definitely wasn't X-MEN.

The only reason I picked this issue off the comic book rack (oh, how I miss those things!) was a pretty silly one- I hated disco and was curious to see what kind of train wreck was inside.  What I found inside was the complete opposite of what I expected to see.  I had seen the X-Men covers on the rack several times but the weird-looking characters drove me away until this issue came out.  If only I had given it a shot earlier than 130. Could have saved some cash on back issues!

Looks like I'm a lot younger than most of the folks here! I read this issue so much as a kid. Looking back at it recently, I was surprised how little there was in it. I don't think there was even a fight. Of course I was attracted to it because I was a fan of the cartoon.

Yeah, my first X-MEN was in one of those. I bought a LOT of those. I got FF 256 and 257, DEFENDERS 122 and 123, DR STRANGE 60, AVENGERS 234, NEW MUTANTS 6, and a few more that I can't remember specifically.

My very first *exposure* to the X-Men, that I can remember,
was in a tabloid-sized reprint of the Kane-drawn Spider-Man
encounter, with the X-Men in street clothes. I think my
very first purchased issue was #171, the "Welcome To the X-
Men, Rogue" issue.

This was my first. Wasn't long before I was digging through back issue boxes and finding the Claremont and Byrne run but this is what got it all started (after JB sucked me back into comics at the age of 13 with his Fantastic Four run). Man, it was great when Wolverine was only in one Marvel book, wasn't it?

My first issue, and a real gold mine for a young fan.
