Well, since no one else is writing The Fantastic Four, ...
Seriously tho: nobody else is writing the Fantastic Four. The world is a poorer place for it.

What did retailers say was the logic behind decreasing the number of copies ordered?

I remember having problems finding first issues of certain series (including Next Men) because the speculators had bought them out. Another way to not build an audience: 5 people buy all copies of issue #1 with no interest in buying any more.

Indeed, now that Marvel has voluntarily put the Fantastic Four in publishing limbo, it's a great time for the return of Danger Unlimited.

I'd love to see more Danger Unlimited! It was great to see more Next Men a few years back and I always hoped we'd see some more DU too. I also enjoyed Babe.

Shops over-ordered first issues, so there would be lots for the speculeeches. Ditto the second issue, tho not so many. By the third issue they were down to the number they expected to sell to regular readers -- who had not been able to get the first two!!

Is there a reason you've not brought the book back through IDW? They seem receptive to publishing your material in all sorts of formats. IDW published a trade edition collecting the 4 issues of DU. It seems logical to now follow up with a new 4 issue mini series that continues on from the original series -- then IDW could publish TWO new trades - one collecting the new mini and one collecting BOTH mini's. Free money to you in sales royalties. Rinse, wash, repeat - with a third mini series.

I would happily buy new DANGER UNLIMITED comics, but it's more of the TRIO, TRIPLE HELIX and CONCLAVE universe I'm eager to see!

Add my vote: I'd love to see more DU as an ongoing. Now I'm wondering-- would DU be part of the same world as Trio and Triple Helix? Hm.

It's sorta possible. Golgotha was pulled from another universe in Triple Helix, I believe.

My local shops both still do basically the same thing. They order the number of copies that their pull list subscribers have committed to buy, and for the most part, that's it. The extremely mainstream DC and Marvel titles (Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers) they order 1 or 2 extra copies, max, for the shelf.
Though I stopped getting monthly comics a few years back, I recently thought about getting my feet wet with a couple of individual titles again...when I found out I was going to have to go through all kinds of wrangling to get them locally, I decided against.
If a book store operated that way, it would go out of business. When I hear about a book on NPR or somewhere else and get interested, I can walk into a local bookstore and usually find it pretty quickly. The idea that the same isn't true of comics is dumbfounding.
