I would say this applies more to President Carter than President Obama.

The people who attack President Obama don't do it because they think he is weak.  He is in their minds a foreign tyrant, socialist dictator, Muslim extremist, gun stealing, Texas invading, pot smoking thug, blah-blah.....

Which are all code words for 'black'.

I hear a lot of people call him weak. If memory
serves (and it doesn't always), I've heard even people
on the left call him weak, for not standing up and
doing what they expected him to do.

David Allen Perrin, the 1996 and 2000 Republican Presidential nominations were Colin Powell's for the taking if he wanted them.  Both times he declined to run.

And a majority of the GOP would still love to have Condoleezza Rice run for the office.

Can't people actually disagree with Obama on the issues without it being about race?

Or 50% White, in Obama's case.

I think we can mostly agree Obama has been a great dull thud of a president -- and I voted for him twice -- but it's a stretch to attribute his failings to being Black. As I have noted before, he is a most atypical African-American. Begin with the fact that when he looks in a mirror, no part of his brain thinks I am only here because my great grandfather was a slave.

Yes.

Can people actually acknowledge that believing Obama is a foreign-born,
crypto-Muslism, Fascist-Socialist (huh?) goes beyond simply disagreeing
with Obama?

There are a lot of Trump Jokes online and probably many more to come but here's one only the members of this forum might get.

Matt, Trump is a blowhard and a braggart, but I don't believe a thought stays
in his head long enough for a lie to form before it has exited his mouth.

-----

It would be naive to believe that his comments aren't specifically curated to
appeal to Republicans disenfranchised with the mainstream GOP
establishment.

Do I think Obama is foreign born?

Don't know.  Don't care.  His mother is American and that's good enough.

Do I think he is a socialist?

Yeah, I probably do, but that doesn't mean I think he is evil.

Do I think he is Muslim?

Personally, I believe he is an atheist, but I wouldn't care if he was a
  Muslim.

Holy Jebus, you're a birther. Let's for a moment, set aside the fact that it's been well-established that Obama is a US citizen (source 1, source 2, source 3). Here's what I don't get: If you accept that he is American because his mother is American (which is correct, so good for you for understanding that, at least), then of course you know that he's a US citizen. Even if he was "foreign born" (which he wasn't, he was born in Hawaii), he'd still be a US citizen. Why would you say you don't know if he's foreign born? Even worse, why would you say you don't care?!

Why? The Right has so skewed the center that anything left of center is
considered Socialism. Consider that his signature piece of legislation sets
up exchanges to assist people to get health insurance through PRIVATE
insurers. Consider that the Treasury sold off the bank assets acquired
through TARP, rather than retaining them, which is the opposite of what a
Socialist government would do.

Why wouldn't you take it at face value that he goes to Church?

Jeremy, you are grasping at straws to criticize me.

Of course I don't know where he was born.  I don't know where you were born.  I don't know where JB was born.  I was not there.

I can't guarantee I was born where my birth certificate says.  I was kind of small then and drooled a lot.

I said I don't know and don't care.

His mother is an American citizen and that's good enough for "me" regardless of what the Constitution says.
