Growing up in the 70's those old hardcover collections only credited Stan Lee. Seemed like Stan was more than willing to take all the credit when no one challenged him.

From my point of view he deserves some hassling just for that.

Have you every READ those books? It was from them we learned that Kirby created the Silver Surfer, that Ditko was called in to create his own version of Spider-Man, and a whole lot of other things most of us had not known before.

Those books say "Stan Lee"'on the cover because he is the author of those books. Inside, Stan gives plenty of credit where it's due. (Kirby boosters seem most upset because Stan doesn't give ALL the credit to Kirby. Even what belongs to others!)

I remember drooling over Bring On The Bad Guys in the book store when it came out.
I think it was 7 or 8 bucks, which was way more money than I had.
Imagine my surprise a few months later when I received it for Xmas from my Aunt that year.
She had actually seen me that day in the book store.
Still have it.

Its been a while since I read them. I will take a look when I can. To a 10 y/o kid it did give the impression that he did all the heavy lifting. I certainly would not want to see a repackaging of your run on Uncanny titled, "The Uncanny X-Men" by Chris Claremont.

I loved reading my friend's copies, but my parents didn't have enough
money to let me convince them that I needed these or the treasuries,
for that matter.

Nothing like that. If Chris wrote a history of the X-Men, as Stan wrote a history of Marvel, I would expect the cover to say CHRIS CLAREMONT. I would expect to see my proper credit given inside.

Asking price and selling price are two different things...
