i have been reading a few comics recently whose credits would say "layouts by ..." and then some would say "breakdowns by ...". either would have the next line of credits: "finished by ..." or just go straight to "inking by ..."

Q - in the comics world, is there a difference, or distinction between layouts and breakdowns, or are we talking apples and apples ?

thanks.

As the terms were used at Marvel in my day, breakdowns were tighter and more detailed than layouts.

JB, can you post some representative examples of layouts and breakdowns so we can see the difference?

I like where this is going!

Can we specifically request what the layouts for the Fantastic Four battling Dr. Doom and Galactus are versus the breakdowns of the Silver Surfer and Nova joining the fray?

Just kidding!!!

In case any clarification is needed, I wasn't asking JB to draw up fresh examples.  Just to post examples of existing representative samples (whether by him or another artist).

further clarification: it wasn't me that asked for the extra "homework" - JB's answer was fine by me.
