I admired his writing a lot - I think I had to read excerpts of THE MAN WHO MISTOOK HIS WIFE FOR A HAT in college and found it interesting, but I really became engaged in his writing when I read a 1993 article he wrote in the THE NEW YORKER called "To See and Not to See", about a man who lost his eyesight as a child, and then regained it at the age of 50. That article had a huge impact on me. I credit that article with making me a NEW YORKER subscriber to this day, and of course the start of reading Sacks' books over the years.
