Here's a pic Bob Smith recently shared that he says is from the 1979 NYC Creation Con. Was it a multi-day show? Besides JB & Terry Austin, can anyone identify the other people pictured?

** Wow, very cool photo, Mark. Looks to be from the same convention, just judging from the sketches that are hanging on the wall in back. Looks like there are drawings also on the wall in the photos I posted. Maybe they put them up there as they completed them.
Terry is interestingly wearing the same shirt and he has the same watch/wristband on, not to mention the tablecloth seems the same. John has at least changed his shirt! So, I'm thinking it must have been a weekend con (2 days). Not sure who anyone else in the photos is, though!

After doing a bit of sleuthing and investigation, in conjunction with Ferran Delgado, editor/producer of Spanish language magazine Plot 2.0 (who are producing upcoming issues on the Dark Phoenix saga) we have pinpointed the above photos to be from the Creation Convention at the Statler Hotel, NYC Saturday Nov 29th (or possibly Sunday the 30th), 1979.

That's awesome...Interesting - I wonder if they had two brochures? This is a photo of the sign in at the show and it has what I'm assuming is the program guide on the table, with Alien on the cover and the one you have isn't there. Hmmm...

Wow! I know I have that one somewhere, too! Not sure where, though...The one I shared has art and interviews but no listing of events, so I would guess there are two. I love this thread - it's really kicking up some fond memories. Do you have any more pictures? My Dad didn't take any, so I am living vicariously through your family experience :-) Thanks!

Hey Mark - I find it fascinating as well...I do have quite a few more photos from this show, no other ones of John or Terry...more of comic books and some other lesser known artists. I don't know if this is the proper place to post any of those? I have posted one to a Facebook comic group.
You can see it here:

I'd love to see the "lesser known" artist's and others. My Dad got a sketch from a young Tom Yeates that same day. In fact, that drawing is dated, so I'll need to check it out to help confirm my memory of the date. I'm going to dig out my autograph book, too. Thanks again!

For the benefit of those who might not be able to gauge the angle, that's Mark Gruenwald and Steven Grant in that picture, not Ralph Macchio and Mark.

Thanks for that clarification, John.
Mark, the other artists turns out to just be, one, Fred Bobb...a few photos of his table set up with originals for sale. I'll try and scan in a couple before the end of the weekend.
I got a cool Bill Sienkiewicz Moon Knight at this show, inked by Joe Rubenstein. At the time Moon Knight was still a backup in The Rampaging Hulk magazine.
Looking forward to hearing the date on your Yeates sketch.
