What is this? 1973?
How much time, effort and money went into a bill that would cast us back into the stone age? The law of the land is Roe v Wade. I understand that those voting in favor of this more than likely know that it's just for show because it will be struck down as unconstitutional, but it's absolutely ridiculous on its face.
One step forward, two steps back.

Once again, the life of the unborn is considered more important than the life of the mother.

QUOTE:
"Under the bill, doctors who perform an abortion could face three years in prison, and lose their medical license. There are no exceptions for rape or incest — only the mother's life. Oklahoma lawmakers passed the measure with no debate. The only doctor in the Senate — a Republican — voted no, calling it 'insane.' " |

Mother's life exception notwithstanding, it is insane.

The mother's life exception is window dressing. It ignores all the young women who will have to seek their abortions elsewhere, under less than ideal conditions. You know, just like back in the good old days.Ah, well. Sales of wire coat hangers will rise in Oklahoma, so there's a win.

Anti-abortion folks are maddening. By all means fight to cease abortions -- by helping women not get pregnant when they don't want to.That so many abortion opponents are also opposed to birth control, or at least providing it, makes my head explode. It's like fighting to stop auto accident fatalities, but also being opposed to airbags and seatbelts.

This map, made in 2015, shows estimated distances to abortion clinics.
The lightest color is up to 25 miles, the mid-dark is 100 miles, and the darkest between 200 and 300 miles.

Assuming that map to be accurate, it's embarrassing! It's like a practical demonstration of the old saw that the further one moves inland from the coasts, the dumber the people become. In the 21st Century, the map should be all one color -- the lightest.

Here's another look:
As outrageous as Oklahoma's bill is, the efforts to restrict abortion (I mean, women's healthcare!) in insidiously legal ways is even more shockingly effective.
Bans on insurance coverage are so widespread that words fail to describe the travesty of what's going on -- look at this map:
In pretty much half of the country, women on Medicaid (poor women!) cannot get insurance coverage for abortion.

Young women of means will still take vacations to the coasts or wherever abortion is safely and discreetly provided.
If gun control advocates were only half as effective at restricting a "right," we'd actually be saving lives.

Take it a step further. Imagine if these people who are so concerned about preserving the lives of the unborn devoted some energy to protecting children from gun violence. The gun control advocates tend to be the rational ones, tho. That's why we don't read about them blowing up gun shops.

I agree, but that map seems to be a little misleading to prove a point as it coincides (for the most part.) with population density.

Yes population density was my first thought too. Not to detract from the despicable attempts to close down clinics, but most of those darker areas are probably very sparsely populated.
