I'm the Great Satan, remember? Most of the negative response was from people who were not even reading the book.

That's only one of the reasons why your reboot of the Doom Patrol got so much vocal negative response. The other reason why your reboot got so much vocal hate is because you didn't aim your Doom Patrol series exclusively at the selfish elitist adult vocal fans of Grant Morrison's "mature readers" version of the Doom Patrol. This type of selfish elitist thinking from adult comic fans (many of whom are either "professional" comic book critics/journalists/columnists or fans turned pro) is something that started creeping into the comic book industry 30 years ago, and the hate is not exclusive to you JB. Unless it's a "cool" trendy novelty, these selfish elitist fans are against any creators who dare to produce a Big 2 superhero comic for all ages, especially a comic that had at one point in time was aimed at "mature readers".

I Enjoyed JB's Doom Patrol Secret Orgins special he did back in the late 80's long before this series.

That's one of my top 5 art jobs where JB did pencils and inks. Love that issue.

That was my first real introduction to the Doom Patrol!

I had no knowledge of the Doom Patrol prior to the series, so enjoyed it "as new" - and enjoyed it thoroughly.

I just had a last reread through my collection as they were destroyed in a garage flood. I picked through the squidgy copies before they went into recycling. They still held up and were a good read. I think they may have been the last (new) comics I bought...

Not sure how that works. LAB RATS reverted to me, but that was a different deal.

does this mean someone (you approve of) could come out with a Lab Rats collection? any chance IDW could do what they did with Next Men and have a continuation?

(i really liked Lab Rats - can you tell?)

Superman's appearance could make any non-DC collection problematic.

Mr. Byrne, I'll beg your pardon if this has been covered previously, or if it's too uncomfortable a story, but I'm quite curious. What was DC's - or your - plan to reconcile your new Doom Patrol with the existing history? I know you went over it a bit in the book, but I cannot recall, and considering that Changeling and Mento (and by association, Elasti-Girl etc.) were already in continuity... I'm just curious as to what the plan was, if you please.

And as long as we're on the topic... I was absolutely delighted by the Generations chapter that you snuck into the Cliff Steele multiple realities story. (And "Shrink, Rita! Shrink!" brought a tear to my eye. Of course there was a way out...)
