I should note that at this time, I am morbidly obese, weighing 265 at a height of 5'6". If I can rectify that, my odds of living a longer life ought to improve...

Many years ago I created a survey for some friends (I was trying out some software and wanted some figures to test it with). Most of the questions were trivial but the final one was 'Name the date you think you will die'. I still have those answers somewhere... but some people refused to answer the question. I don't know if they thought by putting a date down, it would happen!?

Unless the birth date on your Profile is incorrect, that calculation gives you 92 years. At 6 ft and 240lbs, the chart tells me I am obese*, and gives me only 72 years. Sounds like you don't have much to worry about changing!!

__________

* These staight height/weight calculations never do seem to take into account those of us who really ARE "big boned."

BMI calculations often stump me.

My older boy is 22 years old, 5'9" in height, and he's been a gymnast for many years -- solid muscle, zero fat. 180 lbs.

According to that "death" site, his BMI is 27 and he's "prone to health risks."

Really...?!

BMI is pretty much a waste of time. A far better barometer is waist size as that lets you know if the extra weight is evenly distributed or is it all located around your middle.

You can have a high BMI, but be pretty well proportioned or a low BMI but have it all in the waist. Health wise, you are the exact opposite of what the BMI tells you.

I read years ago that Arnold Schwarzenneger's height/weight combo classified him as "obese."

I'll take living to 92! That said, it'd be best for me if I did take off some weight. A computer prediction is all well and good but I won't put all my confidence in it. :)

It would be interesting to get Tom French's views on BMI. Does he still post here? I can't recall seeing something from him for a while.

When I die I want to go like my grandfather, peacefully in his sleep....

...not screaming in terror like his passengers!
