Bummer. Sorry to hear that about your home Stephen. Glass half full about the comics collection, it's a new start of the hunt.
I don't need to worry about 4 to 6 feet of flooding tho my finished basement had a few long boxes on the floor and some of the comics did get damaged when my basement was wet from flood storms. After that, I finally bagged and boarded the entire collection and store them on 5 foot shelving. Tip, short boxes folks.

Stephen so sorry to hear what happened to you. At least you have a bright spot to focus on with your girlfriend and your renewed relationship. Hopefully many things with your house and property will be salvageable and you're able to get life back to normal as soon as possible.

Best of luck to you, sir, in this difficult time. I lost a good portion of my collection after a fire coated everything with soot and, according to the state of Colorado, asbestos particles. Those items in bags, I was allowed to keep, so long as I rebagged them and disposed of the grimy old bags according to instructions. I rebuilt the collection haphazardly, doubling and tripling some issues, and went too far with it in general. Now have a number of boxes I'm looking to get rid of.
If you want to post a few of the key issues you're searching for, I may be able to help. I may not, but who knows? I would recommend keeping a well-organized shopping list, and sticking only to those items you want back very much. Those that you feel you may be able to live without, try doing so for awhile. Sometimes, less is more.

I lost a good chunk of my comic book collection when I discovered my cat was peeing on them. (I had them in stacks on a table in a mostly unused room.) Not catastrophic, but certainly smelly. All digital for me, ever since.
Very sorry to hear about the damage to your home, Stephen. Best of luck in getting through this difficult time!

That's horrible, Stephen! I've thought about getting rid of my collection just to have less stuff -- but it would be a terrible shock to have it all just disappear on me.
(But congrats on finding more love!)
If you could have any of it back today, what would you start with? Maybe there are some of us around here with extra copies. Like sour-dough starter, it could maybe get the collection going again.

That's just brutal Stephen - really sorry to hear about this. But, as others have expressed, I'm glad it brought you and your girlfriend closer.

Sorry to hear this Stephen, will insurance cover the costs? I think that if this happened to me,apart from a few titles,i`d go digital, that way if you lose your device, you can still download to a new one at no extra cost.Space saving too.

Sorry, Thom, but I have to disagree. That was catastrophic.

GAH! At least what happened to Stephen was a natural disaster. But to toss out books and comicbooks, why, that's un-natural!

A bad report card resulted in my mother giving all my comics to a children's hospital when I was around 14. It wasn't until I was in my early twenties that I began the rebuilding process.Of course, things were easier back then. Second hand book stores still had piles of old comics, and rarely were they more than 5¢ a piece. The various "price guides" we see today did not exist.
