Tonight was the season two premiere. With the exception of two episodes I didn't watch the 1st season. But since the move to the WB means it is going to interact with the other DC shows I decided to watch it series now.

I am dealing with the Jimmy Olson Race swapping. Hoping that the actor will grow on me like the actress playing Iris West has grown on me.

But there was something going on through out the episode that was annoying the fuck out of me. Supergirl and Superman must think everyone is deaf. Multiple times during the episodes they are talking to each other about being who they are and people are walking right by them.   It was getting to be ridiculous.

An earnest, smiling Superman! I enjoyed Superman and Supergirl's
rapport. Tyler Hoechlin doesn't look quite right as Superman, and I'm
not a fan of the cape, but I thought his portrayal was spot-on.

The soft reboot was a bit clunky at times (dropping the Kara/Jimmy
romance and the new DEO HQ), but I'm glad they just ripped off the
Band-Aid, no matter how awkward, and moved forward.

With Winn joining the DEO and Calista Flockhart only able to do a
recurring role, I'm guessing CatCo will be seen less this season. I
wonder what they will do with Jimmy.

So they mentioned the California earthquake caused by Lex Luthor. Are we in the Superman, The Movie universe?
If so does that make Cat's assistant THE Miss Teschmacher?

I agree with most things you say here, Michael.

A very strong season opener. Hoechlin was terrific as Superman - and unlike the current movie version, you felt from the get-go that it was actually WAS Superman.

SO relieved the Kara/James (I refuse to call him Jimmy) romance is off. Zero chemistry there.

When Cat Grant shouted “MISS TESCHMACHER!” I chuckled.

Solid start to the news season.

James Olsen is set to become The Guardian later in season 2.

Almost feels like how Arrow does things with characters and IPs, that aren't associated with Green Arrow. Although, Jim Harper/The Guardian did first appear in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen. Maybe the show runners are trying to be clever?

Jim Harper/The Guardian first appeared in the Newsboy Legion's feature in Star-Spangled Comics back in 1942. Kirby, who originated the character along with Joe Simon, brought him back as a clone of the original during his run on Jimmy Olsen.

I loved the first CW episode.  The only VERY minor nitpick I have about it is how tall the actor is portraying Superman.  He did a great job, but he's too short for me to see him entirely as Superman....

I read that the mystery man in the "kryptonian" pod is Mon El. I like the addition of the character.

I have a question for anyone . David Harewood appears to be The Martian Manhunter. Yet he is called Hank Henshaw?  Henshaw who eventually will become the cyborg Superman. What is going on?

The real Hank Henshaw was a human in charge of the DEO. He
mistrusted aliens and charged the DEO with hunting them down. One
of his agents was Jeremiah Danvers, Kara's adoptive father, who
Henshaw blackmailed into joining by threatening to have Kara locked
up. On a mission, they were hunting an alien who turned out to be
J'onn. Mr. Danvers realized J'onn was friendly and ended up sacrificing
himself to prevent Henshaw from killing J'onn. J'onn assumed
Henshaw's form in order to steer the DEO away from harming peaceful
aliens and to fulfill his promise to a dying Danvers to watch over his
daughters.

Since Danvers is apparently alive and held by Cadmus, I think it'd be
neat if "Cyborg Superman" ended up being Mr. Danvers' body (he's
played by Dean Cain) with Henshaw's consciousness. Although Dean
Cain doesn't quite have Superman's physique anymore.

The only thing I think I disliked is that Superman's cape really is a little too long.

The setups from that episode are INCREDIBLE! I can't point them out, but two things occurred to me.

1) Lena Thoru- I mean, Luthor. What are the chances she's telepathic?

2) As noted, if this is occurring in the "Superman: The Movie" universe, that means that Brandon Routh is both Superman and the Atom. MIND... BLOWN!!! :) But seriously, if that is Miss Tessmacher's daughter/niece/third cousin once removed, and she's in solid at CatCo, that's kind of a big link to Lex Luthor, I surmise. (I would laugh so hard I would cry if Gene Hackman  makes a cameo. Don't say it can't happen... it might. Just a couple seconds, a jail cell with no lines. Please please please please PLEASE!)

Pointless to grumble about the "de-uniquing" of Superman, here. The whole show celebrates it!

I wonder why Supergirl wears a red skirt -- or a skirt at all.

I was hoping that, as with the Flash, Supergirl's chest emblem would be changed to the right colors this season. Well, one can hope.

Mr. Byrne - how would you see Supergirl costumed? Surely there aren't many living creators out there who have more authority on this than you.

Supergirl's costume --

Traditionally, as many of you probably know, superheroine's costumes were based on female figure skaters. Slowly this changed, as artists like Gil Kane, Neal Adams and Dave Cockrum gave us more form-fitting outfits. By the time I wandered thru the door the skirt/boots motif was pretty much passe.

When it comes to the TV Supergirl, tho, there are several questions. Since Superman no longer wears red trunks, what is the inspiration for that splash of red below Kara's waist? What's the inspiration for the skirt?

Alright, I really don't think I can call this tired salty middle aged creature Snapper Carr.

Nope.

Jimmy Olson-> Pointless. (And he's taller and  more robust looking than Superman? WTF?)

But Snapper Carr is....it's total bullshit. They might as well have cast a goat or a Galápagos tortoise or a sock puppet.

Just randomly sticking names to random actors is bullshit.

No.

And Jimmy's Guardian Armor looks like something one of Glorious Godfrey's Justifers would wear.

Has Jimmy accepted the dreaded anti-life  "Happiness package" ?

I wonder if we'd have been happier if, instead of Snapper Carr, that actor had been named Julie Schwartz? From the one time I met the gentleman, I think the characters matched up a little.

Interesting that one of the cost cutting processes this year was treating Superman and Cat Grant as just special appearances for the first two episodes, rather than regulars. I can't say I dislike the possibilities, but there was an intriguing dynamic between Linda and Supergirl and Cat. I wonder if they can keep it as interesting with James (ugh!) in charge.

Introducing "Snapper Carr" is part of the whole process that keeps me away from these shows and movies. The "creative" types in Hollywood begin by asking "WHat can we change?" (at least, according to William Goldman, and he should know!) and after stripping our most of the core of the characters, they toss in these little sops for the fanboys.

I agree with everything you said Emery!

I cannot imagine this Snapper Carr as an honorary member of the JLA!
