First trailer available today.
The next trailer will have to be a vast improvement to get me anywhere near this.  Utter rubbish.

It looks to me like they wanted to do Old Man Logan, but don't own several of the characters over at Fox.  So they brought in the Reavers story from circa UXM #251 and smooshed that in there.  Then replaced Jubilee with someone who I think is X-23.  Then threw in Professor X because...I dunno...because Patrick Stewart?

Heh. I thought this would be about a Logan's Run remake.

Wait, I'm confused...

Shouldn't this movie be called JAMES or JIMMY, instead?

Got rid of the haircut -- and maybe even the name Wolverine -- which only really leaves the claws to go next.

Kidding aside about the title, I think this looks excruciating. Not an ounce of fun to be had, anywhere in that footage.

Here's hoping Deadpool gives us a scathing parody of this teaser, sometime next year...

I can't say I like this new trend of movie trailers where they try to make a music video instead of a movie trailer.

I haven't read a lick of Old Man Logan so have no idea if they are using existing stories or not. I think that's the problem for me about this trailer, it in no way resembles anything close to Wolverine, or X-Men, or anything even remotely Marvel'ish.

Looks like he doesn't have his healing factor.

"Why is Mel Gibson playing Wolverine?"
-------------------------------------------------------

A long, long time ago he was much sought after to play the role. So this sort of feels like everythings coming full circle, in a strange, almost ironic type of way.

That wasn't too bad a trailer. My main problem with it is that Days of Future Past, for all it's faults, had reset everything to a happy ending for the X-men. But if this is taking any inspiration from that horrible Old Man Logan comic, then that's everything ending on a downbeat note again.

A long standing Claremontian tradition -- the X-Men are not allowed happy endings.

Old Man Logan is a post-apocalyptic UNFORGIVEN with inbred,
hillbilly Hulk offspring. It works as a nihilistic WHAT IF? I guess, but I
don't know why you'd want to bring it into continuity, comic or movie.
Based on the trailer, I think the only thing they are taking from it is an
aged, reluctant Wolverine being dragged back into violence.

Has his "healing factor" been dialed down to more manageable levels?

No, never mind. I really don't care anymore.

Watching that, and JB's question brings a question to my mind.

With his healing factor, would Wolverine still have scars from wounds?

Back in my day, yes (at Chris's suggestion). Since he became able to "heal" from DISINTEGRATION, no.

See, that makes sense, of course. Healing does not automatically mean regeneration. I like the idea of healing over regeneration for a super powered character anyway. It limits their abilities, which is always good for stories. Once god-powers are accepted, I lose interest.

According to the Logan movie synopsis, Wolverine's healing ability has been greatly diminished over time.

In Old Man Logan, which this is based on, his healing factor sort of burned out.  That's why he has bloody knuckles all the time in the trailer, when his claws pop out, it doesn't heal up.

This looks to be two stories mixed together.  Old Man Logan was set in a post-apocalyptic world where all the super-villains had ganged up, Acts of Vengeance style, and conquered the world, then carved it up between themselves.  Most of the heroes are dead, the ones that aren't are in hiding.  Logan is out on a dust bowl farmstead, retired.  He gets drawn out of hiding, teams up with an aged Hawkeye to cross desolate America in his pickup truck, and ends up battling the Red Skull who is ruling the eastern seaboard from Washington D.C.  Obviously, they had to make changes since they don't own Hawkeye or the Red Skull, or a lot of other characters who pop up.  They seem to have replaced aged Hawkeye with aged Professor X.

The other story is from circa UXM #251, when Wolverine returned to the X-Men's base in Australia to find it taken over by the Reavers, discovered Jubilee was still hiding there, and set out to rescue her.  So they brought in Donald Pierce and the Reavers from that story and the element of Wolverine trying to rescue a young girl as what brings him out of retirement.  Since they already used Jubilee, its not clear who this girl is, though speculation is that its X-23, the female teenage clone of Wolverine.

Oddly enough, I bet JB will get thanked at the end, as he sort of accidentally sideways helped create the Reavers.

Since it was JB's intervention that kept Wolverine from being written out of X-Men, it seems Marvel and Fox ought to be thanking him for more than that.

One thing I did like about the trailer is that it introduced me to the Johnny Cash song "Hurt".

You'd never heard that, Joe? It was his last big hit and it was huge. Even rock radio was playing it at the time. It's a cover version of the Nine Inch Nails song.

There was a great cold opening to a Person of Interest episode in it's third season that used the whole song in a wonderful way. So to me, I'll always link it to that. Plus it's also one of my Father's favourite songs. I'll readily admit though that it does work for this trailer. A good choice to set the mood I suppose.

Yeah, unfortunately the films seem to have a long standing tradition of adapting the worst aspects of those comic stories. For instance, they've certainly mirrored the often convulted and contradictory continuity of the various mutant books.
