A new comic shop has opened up in my town, its called Shattered Comics. The owner is a great guy and is very talented; he works with tile to make mosaics of comic covers.

I saw him post on his Instagram pics of Frank Miller signing the Daredevil piece. Pretty cool work!

This stuff is gorgeous and I'd like one! But I'm confused regarding what he does... is he working from reproduced covers which he shatters then puts together painstakingly from bits of the recreations? If so, I don't understand why the letters of the some of the words (like Captain America in the most excellent Avengers 4 mosaic) seem to be have perfectly formed outlines; definitely not random shards there. Perhaps he's baking his own tiles with the words separately?
Mind you, I'm not trying to diminish the remarkable craftsmanship involved; however he does it it is obviously a time consuming, intricate labor of love. I've worked with tile mosaics and it's not easy either as an art form or as a simple test of one's patience. Just curious regarding his process.

I don't know if this will answer your question but it's a picture of a work in progress (it's not mine so I blacked out the main image) I hope it gives you an idea of how he does it.
