Yesterday evening, October 20, 2016 at 10:50 PM, my dad, Sam Carrubba, passed away at the age of 91. You first "met" him here:

He had suffered multiple strokes, which took away much of his speaking ability and motor skills. He was bedridden with caregivers, myself included, for the past two years. Even though I've grieved losing him, he was still there for me to tell him that I loved him and I was proud of him.
He was a World War II veteran, and was in the Battle of the Bulge and liberated the Death Camps.
Not more than 8 hours after he passed, my family received a great blessing in the form of a video interview that was on a VA website. Dad had told me of the video, but we never saw it. I am providing the link below. I have of course downloaded it to show at his memorial service in the near future. I haven't heard my Dad speak except for a few words in six years.

The picture below is Dad as we want to remember him. It's truly a blessing that he is free of the body that no longer allowed him to act independently. My mother and he celebrated 50 years of marriage this year, and she cared for him to the end (she's 17 years younger than Dad).
Sad as it is, I can't say I'd want him to go on as he was.

Just to note, he didn't look as good as the pictures I posted when he passed. He was very frail and his body simply shut down. Dad's advice to everyone was usually, "Don't get old."
Just further proof that aging is a fatal disease.
