Such was the description of Michigan's 7th district voting bloc on NPR this morning.

If abortions were performed with fire arms, the Right would be in such a quandary.

So, the pastor at my wife's church had a sermon this past weekend on drinking wine/ alcohol. He actually didn't really come down either for or against as far as what the Bible says, but preached more on his experiences in his life. Apparently, there was a time in his life before being led to preach where he was heavily involved in the social scene and drank alcohol. He stated he was never addicted or anything but did drink on a semi-regular, social basis. So, he moved forward to today and stated that he wasn't going to have anything in his house that could bring so much harm to him or any members of his family. This was after his men's group scheduled a shooting/ hunting trip for later this fall. He's a HARD CORE hunter/ outdoorsman and is bringing up his son to follow in his footsteps. Apparently, it's part of being a man.

If we are going to associate weaponry with "Manhood," surely no weapon that allows the user to strike safely from a distance should qualify. Where is the heroism in going up against a heavily armed opponent who is 100 yards away? Where is the bravery in killing a grizzly bear so far away he's not even scented you?

Swords, knives, these maybe qualify as "manly" weapons. Bare hands? Now we're talking!

I just don't get some mindsets at all. And, yes, where is the bravery in shooting a grizzly from 100 yards away? Or from a helicopter?

Many people confuse superiority with bravery and forget that bravery doesn't occur unless preceded by fear. In Robbie's example, fear of falling out of the helicopter doesn't count.

The right is a huge contraction:

Pro life
Pro gun
Pro death penalty

Huh?

I've often made the point that the Second Amendment is, itself, unConstitutional, since it effectively trumps (you should pardon the expression) the rest of the document in its entirety. One individual with a gun voids the rights of all others who happen to be in range.

This!

I've started many, maaany arguments elsewhere with my "guns are for 'p-words' who are afraid to take a punch" comments.

Reading this thread, I flashed back to an episode of the SImpson's Treehouse
of Horror XIII "The Fright to Creep and Scare Harms". Everyone giving up their
guns and Lou's comment.

One of my neighbors has a bumper sticker that reads DON'T TREAD ON GUN RIGHTS.

As if.
