[To] force those in power to at least think about their decisions and how they affect the people they are supposed to be governing in a responsible manner.

"All things being equal, Mr. Scott, I would agree with you. However, all things are not equal."

I don't see Trump or his administration taking any heed of protests.

There's a bigly entertaining story in the Washington Post about the high jinks of the first few days of the Trump Administration:  https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/the-first-days-insid e-trumps-white-house-fury-tumult-and-a-reboot/2017/01/23/7ce ef1b0-e191-11e6-ba11-63c4b4fb5a63_story.html

I love how we're barely 100 hours in and Trump's closest aides are falling over themselves to portray him as an infantile ninny. It took months for similar stories to emerge about W. and those were at least ostensibly framed as condescending praise ("He paid attention for my entire fifteen minute presentation and asked surprisingly intelligent questions.")  It appears Trump's enablers are hardly as kind. This is going to be like Reagan's last year, for four to eight years.

I just read that story. Pretty much what we've all been yugely saying all along.

What if Trump and his team are throwing all these non-stories out there to deflect attention from the atrocities they are REALLY going to commit?

And there's really no comparison.  In any partisan's most fevered hatethink about President George W. Bush or President Obama, at the very most the worst moments of their administration at least subverted norms (I'm not going to do a laundry list; I'm just saying these guys, no matter how bad you may think they were, weren't wearing their pants on their head).  President Trump is utterly clueless.  There's no hope for even a "crazy like a fox" situation.  And he telegraphed this for over a year.

George W (mis)led the nation into war on false pretenses just so he could finally beat his daddy at something. That goes far beyond "subverting norms."

Why he and Cheney aren't sitting in Guantanomo right now is beyond me.

The moment that I realized just how far we've fallen was when
Bushwas quoted during the most recent presidential campaign and he
came across as a wise elder statesmen in comparison to Trump.

I had a moment last year when I realized the last time the GOP was led by a statesman with a vision for actual governance was Newt Gingrich in the Nineties. Sheesh. .

It's probably optimistic to hope Trump's inevitable foreign expeditions turn out to be half as well-conceived and executed as the Iraq war and the outcomes only twice as calamitous.
