When I first read the Twitter quote in the news this morning, I instinctively (don't ask me why) gave the President the benefit of the doubt and assumed he was talking about doing something beneficial for the DISTRICTS from which they came.

HOWEVER, after just now seeing a news feed of him speaking from the White House lawn, it is clear he was referring to their ethnic lineage/countries of origin (i.e. NOT the United States).  UGH!

I feel that all the racists and creeps have crawled up to the limelight and into positions of power based on a cold calculation on the percentage of apathy out there; people who won't vote, don't want to be involved or get their hands dirty with that nasty politics stuff... also banking on the areas where choice of information media is the least. Sometimes it seems all that's left are two motivated fanatical extremes from whom you get a whole way of life to have to buy into or else you are excommunicated or the 'enemy'. :^(

If there’s ever been any one person in the history of everything that did NOT deserve the benefit of the doubt, it’s Donald J Trump.

People who won't vote came out during the mid-terms last fall and I believe they'll be in full force in 2020.... the big challenge is for the Dems to remain united when it counts... and for voter suppression/tampering to be addressed properly.

Divide and conquer.... that's always been Trump's playbook.

I am currently embroiled in an argument with someone I have considered a friend over these tweets. He insists there is nothing racist about them & I am projecting.

I am currently awaiting a response to asking if he was prepared to go to a black/Asian/whoever who he knew was born in the U.K., tell them to go back to the country they came from & then argue that he was not being racist.

You think there is a line & Trump just blasts through it & the GOP just shrug their shoulders.
This is scary on a monumental scale. He’s going to start talking genocide, & the GOP will let him.

They’re already letting him have concentration camps.

Fine, drop the racist argument. Tell him it's clearly fascist. From Britannica, the characteristics of Fascism:

 QUOTE:
- Opposition to political and cultural liberalism
- Totalitarian ambitions
- Conservative economic programs
- Corporatism
- Military values
- Mass mobilization
- [Anti-]Decadence and [pro-]spirituality
- Violence
- Extreme Nationalism
- Scapegoating
- Populism

Even your friend can't deny that Trump exhibits all of these characteristics to a ridiculous degree. Then, calmly tell your friend to read about the wonderful things fascism has achieved for the human race.

I’ve had so many arguments with him about whether Trump is a fascist or not.

He’s come back & said he thinks he’s xenophobic. I give up. I’m not going to argue the finer points of whether the wanker is racist, xenophobic or both.

Wanker. Can we just settle on wanker & be done?

Let's be clear here. Telling a native-born American who is a POC to go back to the country they came from is racist. (Unless they are outside of the US and you are telling them to go back to the US.) There's no argument over this. It's not an opinion. It's indisputably and unequivocally racist.

If Trump supporters need to delude themselves over whether Trump /meant/ to say something racist, whatever. But factually, he made a racist statement. Anyone who tries to defend that comment as not being racist is probably racist.

Does your friend understand that xenophobia is essentially based on racism?

I think we can safely say he's a wanker. But what do we call people who willingly admire a wanker...?

Are they deluded. I think a large proportion of them agree with him. Just as a large proportion of Brexit-supporters agree with the far-right's depiction of immigrants over here.
