Trump's trade adviser Peter Navarro has now accused Germany of exploiting the US with a 'grossly undervalued' euro.

The euro is a free floated currency. Monetary policy for the eurozone is set by the independent ECB.

The weakness in the euro comes from the eurozone financial crisis. Institutions were disinclined to hold euros because of the sovereign debt issues in Greece and other countries. The ECB introduced negative rates because growth was so low and to combat the risk of deflation. Germany did not cause this!

The flow of mad propaganda from the Trump administration is non-stop.

Furthermore, does Trump want a weak dollar or a strong one?

His verbal barbs toward China, and now this complaint about the low value of the euro, suggest he wants a weak dollar. But when he promises 4% growth as an official promise, it makes the dollar go up.

He also wants to intro tariffs on imports and force companies to build in the US with US materials. This will push domestic prices up. This will force the Fed to raise rates. This will strengthen the dollar.

So, does he want a weak or a strong dollar? Or has he not thought this through?

It was rhetorical.

Apparently, unqualified pick Betsy DeVos will be Secretary of Education.... however, Senate Democrats denied votes for two of
Trump’s Cabinet picks Tuesday, forcing a rescheduling, arguing that those nominees had lied to them.

With plans to quickly confirm Trump’s nominees stalled, Senate Republicans are outraged, suggesting that they’d consider changing
committee rules to eliminate the need for a minority member to be present.

Wow. This gets crazier by the day. *sigh*

Very interesting article. I'd even say he's 100% correct on this. Especially this part:

 QUOTE:
Third, popular attention must focus less on whether we agree with what the government is doing, and more on whether the system of checks and balances we have in place is working. It is a much bigger deal that the DHS felt they could ignore a federal court than that Trump signed an EO blocking green card holders in the first place. It is a much bigger deal that Trump removed a permanent military presence from the NSC than that he issued a temporary stay on immigration. The immigration ban may be more viscerally upsetting, but the other moves are potentially far more dangerous.

When Trump herds every suspected Clinton voter into a concentration camp, liberal pinheads will tweet from their cell block that it's a calculated distraction from the real issues. Or "head fake" I guess. I've seen racism, sexism, free expression, voting rights, immigrants rights, abortion rights, and the Bill of Rights dismissed in turn as distractions from "the real issues," which at this point have been whittled down to an outright coup d'etat and passing a national $15/hour minimum wage. Liberals need to wrap their fucking heads around the idea that multiple issues can be of high importance. Trump is engaging in a comprehensive assault on American liberty and what we like to think are American values, not performing magic tricks.

I don't disagree with this at all.

One, shockingly, positive thing by Trump so far:  Not overturning Obama’s special rights for LGBT government workers Presidential order.

Maybe there is hope?

Nah.  He's still an ass.

What liberals are you talking about, David? Who's dismissing the GOP's record on racism, sexism, voting rights, and abortion as "distractions"? It's those very issues that have liberals worked up, and rightly so.

The distractions are his patent lies about how many watched his inauguration, his stupid claims about who will pay for his wall, his tweets about SNL. The circus nonsense. The rest is pretty serious stuff.

Trump now pushing GOP senators to "go nuclear" to prevent likely Democratic filibuster to block his Supreme Court nomination. Progressive activists have been pushing Dems to block Neil Gorsuch at ALL costs, not because of his record, but because of the Republicans’ unprecedented denial of even a vote for Obama's nominee Merrick Garland last year.

I find the whole issue NOT going well and rather disturbing... wish there was a way to keep the seat vacant till the NEXT election.
