Comey on whether he thinks Trump colluded with Russia: "it's a question I don't think I should answer in open setting."

WHY is everyone so reluctant to discuss WITH THE AMERICAN PUBLIC such a crucial issue??? What ever happened to working FOR the people??

The WAY Comey answers it is actually an answer that screams YES.

Since Comey is the ex-head of the FBI and Mueller is leading an
investigation in Russian connections to the 2016 elections. I think Comey
doesn't want to talk publicly about his opinions publicly which could
interfere with with Mueller's investigations.

The American Public must be considered and evaluated as a whole. While there are many well educated, skeptical and discerning people within the American Public, there are also many that cannot distinguish between your and you're. This investigation and its implications are like a game of Go and the public you are referring to, Charles, can barely play tic-tac-toe. I think working for the people is actually happening just fine. I suspect that all aspects of this investigation are not suitable for 100% public consumption. There is a classified portion of the hearing for a reason.

The testimony was kind of strange in that everyone involved was at pains to stress how unbiased it was -- separate from issues of Democrat vs Republicans -- but then we got Senator John Cornyn spending six of his allotted 7 minutes asking about Hillary and Bill and Loretta Lynch.

I also found Senator John McCain's grasp on proceedings -- or rather, his lack thereof -- to be disconcerting.

I only caught about 45 minutes, but it seemed like a big 45 minutes, with Comey testifying he orchestrated the leak of his notes specifically to instigate a special prosecutor.

It's clear Comey believes Trump committed an impeachable offense.

It's a little funny (but more sad) to watch conservatives offer their best mall lawyer analysis, as if the former director of the FBI both lacks the expertise to recognize obstruction of justice and somehow doesn't know how testify without incriminating himself.

And yes, it was kind of sad to watch American Hero John McCain wobble back and forth while springs fired out of his head. He really seemed proud of himself, too. The Senate has an unfortunate tradition of hosting demented fossils far past their expiration.

Republicans: Let this incompetent motherfucker GO.  Seriously, he's a dolt - quit pretending he isn't!  You have a perfectly competent backup motherfucker ready to serve.

Pence is a "perfectly competent backup motherfucker"?  Seriously?  As much of a fuck-up as Trump has been, Pence scares me even more.  He's ideological and will actually get shit done whereas Trump, for all his misgivings, has been entirely transparent in what he hopes to accomplish.  I don't want either, but given the choice I think I would go with the devil I know (Trump) than the devil I don't (Pence).

Well, conceivably if enough of the administration go down for electoral collusion to seriously call into question the legitimacy of the results, then Pence would logically need to go along with them. But that's of course in a sane universe, one we do not inhabit.

Worse still would be the next in line of succession, Paul Ryan. While he hasn't exactly shown much spark of leadership as House Speaker, I have no doubt he'd demonstrate a terrifying competency at marshaling the federal beaurocratic apparatus into enacting a Randian dystopia.

I'm super unthrilled at the prospect of another theocrat president, but I have to believe Pence would nominate a FEMA director. Right?
