I'm sure most fans -- myself included -- think your integrating She-Hulk in to the Fantastic Four was an excellent effort, JB. Nevertheless, in my opinion replacing Ben so long never should have happened because for all those years kids, some new to reading comicbooks, others in their prime reading years, did not get to experience the Fantastic Four.

That was almost my experience. When I first started reading FF, Medusa had already replaced The Invisible Girl. Sue was back within a couple of issues , and although a little confusing for my 10 year old self I was able to roll with it.

In Brazil, the Thing solo stories were not published. We didn't know there were a Thing title.

So I thought: "Crap! They wrote off the best FF character!".

But... It was John Byrne. Even with She-Hulk, the stories were great.

And when the Thing came back (when he caught Johnny with Alicia), it was a major event around here. We haven't seen Ben for years!

I'm a big fan of Ben Grimm. In fact, he rivals Spider-Man as my favorite Marvel
character. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed Jen's time with the team.

Putting Ben in Marvel-Two-in-One wasn't so bad, because that's a series that is mostly about the guest stars. The significant events don't happen to Ben in that series. But when it becomes a solo title, it's hard to not have anything happen in Ben's life.

Either way, he's a strange one to headline his own book, yet it lasted a lot longer than the Human Torch series.

I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment.

I love Ben as well, but She-Hulk in the FF
felt so natural. Thanks to JB of course!

I can understand the rationale for removing Ben, if Marvel was determined to continue the Thing title.  But to me Ben is the most important member of the FF, the one member that seems irreplaceable to me.  I found it hard to enjoy the series with him gone for such an extended period... it just did not feel right, and the balance of the book was off.  It didn't feel like the FF without Ben.

I'd always liked She-Hulk, so was quite pleased when JB brought her into the FF. This being a comic book series, I figured it was nigh-certain Ben would return at some point, so I enjoyed the novelty of having Jen becoming a part of this tight knit family while Ben did his thing in space...so to speak.

She-Hulk in the FF was a highlight in JB's run... as he mentioned, he got to "play" with a new character and inject a new dynamic into the title. I only wish Ben reuniting with the FF had been done with JB still writing and drawing the series. Perhaps a big, double-sized finale would've been ideal but it was not meant to be.

Still, great stories I go back to from time to time. (If Marvel ever got the rights back, I'm sure they'd attempt to adapt some of JB's material.)

-C!

The Thing was my favourite Marvel character. Loved him in the FF and in his own book. JB taking him out for a while then bringing him back was all absolutely fine with me.

I too just about remembered Medusa and Luke Cage being on the team so replacement members were almost normal.

Artwise over the course of the run, there were individual JB Fantastic Four issues that blew my mind but some of the inkers (particularly the latter part of the run) just weren't my taste.  So the consistency of the JB / TA team on the X-Men wins in the art department.  Storywise, I prefer JB's Fantastic Four over the X-Men issues overall.
