I don't know which is Josie, Valerie or Melody

The trailer comes across as an Archie comic book come to life, doesn't it?

I thought it first was a satire. Now I don't think it is. I can't wait for another new show called "Rich", about a billionaire heir named Richie who had murdered his friend Gloria and uses his fortune to control anyone who knows. And then of course the other CW show about the psychotic ax murderer who leaves her calling card at every crime scene, which is a little piece of cloth covered in dots. Sigh.

Oh, and I think Val is the one doing the cunnilingous hand gesture. She was always the wild one.

Should confuse the heck out of people who think Archie is dead.

Archie dead?? But... but...  I was told by Archie's owner, through its lawyers, that Archie Comics would never kill Archie (true story).

"I want to make a Twin Peaks style show based on mid-American teenagers."

"It'll never sell."

"What if I throw a pittance to Archie Comics and we call it a reboot?"

I won't be watching the show because I don't like the premise. But making Josie, Valerie and Melody all the same race is idiotic.

I'll stick to reading "Afterlife with Archie" (its Archie in a zombie apocalypse!), and occasionally the new "Josie & The Pussycats" comic, thank you very much.

Saw a preview of "Riverdale" last night.

It seems a perfectly equivalent case of calling a turd a rose... and I expect it'll get about the same response.

I saw the preview earlier tonight. Ugh.

I'll be actively avoiding the Riverdale television show.

I'm a big fan of "older" Archie Comics (and Archie Andrews radio show), was
dismayed when I saw the first "new look" Archie stuff a while back, and
continue to be disappointed by decisions which take the characters even
further away from their fun beginnings.

As far as this version of Jose and the Pussycats goes… No. I'll take Dan
DeCarlo's girls instead. (Anyone remember pre-Pussycats Pepper?)

I met Josie during the Pussycats era, so I only know Pepper from back issues and digests, but what little I've seen of her looks like fun!

One thing I appreciated about the "old" Josie and the Pussycats stories is
that while Josie was the leader, and Melody the beauty, Valerie was often
depicted as the smartest (or at least the most sensible). As a kid, that was nice
to see.

So did I, Brian. I still dig those back issues and digests.

I was a Archie reader in my youth. I'd buy the digest versions that sold at supermarket checkouts. They were a nice change from the superhero and horror comics I was reading. I'm not interested in the new show. But I'm going to at least watch the first episode. I'll make my decision on continuing afterwards.

The Pussycats being all the same race makes no sense to me.

I've never touched an ARCHIE comic in my life and have only the dimmest of memories of the 80s cartoon.

I don't typically enjoy teen melodramas unless vampires or werewolves are involved, but the first episode of RIVERDALE was about what I'd expect given that it's a show about teens aimed at teens rather than 60 year olds.  The murder angle is stale; that's such a played out cliche as a hook for soaps.

Without a murder story, soap operas are 'People arguing, and then making out.'

Seems like a big trend these days: take a well-known property and adapt it into something completely unfamiliar.

Well, they're giving the fans what they always wanted--a torrid love affair between Archie and Miss Grundy!  (I'm serious!)

There have been dozens of shows that had the spirit of the Archie comics (SAVED BY THE BELL, etc.) that worked, so what do Greg Berlanti and the CW do?  They give us murder and statutory rape.  Good going.

Of course, if they did ARCHIE totally straight, it would just be HAPPY DAYS again--you know, the beloved sitcom that was at the top of the ratings for a decade!

I refuse to even watch the commercials. I fast forward through them. While I'd probably watch an ARCHIE (or JOSIE AND PUSSYCATS) series done right, this garbage ain't it.

(Have they turned a character either gay, lesbian, or world class drug addict yet?)

Moose has barely been in it. but they've implied drug use, and there was an 'off panel(camera) 'sexual experimentation' with Kevin Keller, which was more talk than action(explained away by Kevin in exposition as 'scene setting').

++++++++++++++++
Kevin is gay in the comics, and always has been. I meant changing an existing straight character's orientation just because/no good reason.

He meant Moose wanted to experiment with Kevin.
