Wow, I used to love the TV show as a kid, never knew of it's comic book format. To know of this comic's existence AND that JB had a hand in it's creation, poof my head!

I've known that JB did the art for this issue, but haven't gotten around to picking a copy up yet, so this is the first time I've actually seen it.

And I don't know what was the first occurrence of Byrne Robotics, but it was also used on at least one issue of Doomsday +1 from around the same time period.

I really, really wish I had my copy of SPACE: 1999 where the Alphans meet the Greek gods. I remember a Cyclops and a crushed Eagle that were just amazing...and Neptune stuck his trident *through* an Eagle, IIRC. Lost it in a move from Wisconsin to New Jersey back in '76... darn it.

"The Gods of Planet Olympus". That was a fun one. Kind of like "Who Mourns for Adonais" on steroids.

Was this the first instance of Byrne Robotics?

According to the Grand Comics Database,  the Byrme Robotics credit was used in Doomsday + 1 #3-5, with cover dates January, March and May 1976. Emergency #1 had a June 1976 cover date.

JB - was Byrne Robotics credited because you had assistants?

Yup.

As I've mentioned before -- it's no secret -- the girlfriend of one of my Art College buddies had lost her job, which left them crimped for cash. Since I was not so crimped, by mid 70s standards, I hired her to rule borders and spot blacks. I wasn't sure Charlton would approve, but I also didn't want to flat out lie in the credits, and thus the original Byrne Robotics was born.

This thread has proven a bit of a trip down Memory Lane. Nicely timed, too. On Monday I have agreed to be interviewed for a documentary about Charlton. At this point I have no idea how large or small my contribution will be, but reading here has stirred up some old memories that may prove useful.
