He already had a school. He was training Kylo Solo and others when Ben Ren turned evil.

Just a guess, but I agree with Brian. TFA kinda put into
the audience's heads that Luke had a school, Ben Solo
turned, created the Knights of Ren and slaughtered all of
the potential Jedi. If this was enough to cause Luke to go
into hiding, I have to believe that he doesn't want any
part of this anymore. So, starting another school sounds a
little off.

There is currently two fan theories sweeping the Internet
concerning Benicio Del Toro's character right now. But as
fan theories may or may not wind up being spoiler
information, I don't want to post here, without approval.
But one of them is pretty interesting, and if so inclined
to this kind of speculation, some of you might want to
check out.

++++++++

There's a certain irony in that Lucas has been been mocked (particularly his quote, "It's like poetry; they rhyme", as popularized by RedLetterMedia) for riffing on and/or inverting specific bits from the original trilogy in the prequels, and yet the Disney films are getting a free pass for blatantly repeating and regurgitating plot points from the original films. Sigh.

*******

I never read into it that Kylo Ben killed all the others and I certainly didn't come out of it thinking he created the Knights of Ren. I thought that had been around for a while and he merely joined.

Speculating about STAR WARS is as useless as wondering what Jesus ate for breakfast on the day of the Last Supper. Since the whole thing is fictional, and Lucas established with the second released film that he had no qualms about overturning his applecart on a whim -- an attitude Disney seems to have embraced -- there are no real grounds for guesswork. If it is decided that Rey is Ben's mother, so it shall be.

And of course I mean Ben Kenobi!

This just brings up all of the stewing hatred I have for TFA. So, all we are given in TFA about Luke is that he was training new Jedi when a student went evil and wiped out the rest of the students. Of course, all of this implies that it was KyloCrybabySolo that turned and slaughtered the Jedi and we are left with the assumption that Luke couldn't bring himself to kill his nephew. Another of many fatal flaws that plagues this "story" is the fact that we don't have any clue as to when all of this occurred. Was Luke just sitting around for a few years and all of a sudden decides to start training new Jedi? Or was he searching through the galaxy for years seeking out potential new Jedi? We don't know because now Luke is the big mystery. Crap! Utter Crap! Just like this map of uncharted territory that leads to Luke. This ain't Star Trek, this is Star Wars. Where has there ever been any indication that the whole galaxy is not readily accessible and there are unknown species or undiscovered planets? I think that's why in the old EU books they had a new antagonist come from another galaxy.

Getting back to my point, none of this makes any sense. KyloCrybabySolo can't be more than say 30 years old at his oldest possible age. So, when did he turn and how long has Luke been in self exile? TFA makes it seem like it's been years since Luke went into hiding but that doesn't make sense unless KyloCrybabySolo had turned evil as a young lad. I just feel a bit sorry for Rian Johnson for having to try and explain all of this nonsense he was left with from Jar Jar Abrams.

*edited because I can't type for spit!

Been seeing "Jar Jar Abrams" used all over the interweb.

SO wish I could convince myself I was the one who coined it!!

So, too, with STAR WARS. Watch the films in the order of their release, and one finds oneself repeatedly asking "but, if...". Watch them according to their internal timeline and see "A New Hope" irrevocably expunged.

And the beat goes on: THE FORCE AWAKENS made ROGUE ONE pointless a year before the latter came out. At once, it erases not only the "happy ending" that ROTJ gave us (after ESB did same to STAR WARS), but also ultimately renders moot the sacrifices made by those who stole the Death Star plans.

Two Death Stars and one SUPER Death Star later, and we're still fighting those star wars in the shadow of Vader and the empire.
