Apart from the color and the interesting soft helmet, it isn't cosmetically so different from the Russian Sokol launch and entry suits used today.
Definitely less bulky than the old Shuttle launch and entry suits.

I would not be surprised if someone at NASA fessed up to Benny as a primary influence! The Lego Space themes may be stored in many NASA engineer's attics!

Needs trunks...

I keep seeing the 2 black bands on it's mid-section as a mouth (and the other hose port as a monocle)...
