Setting aside Jack Harkness, River Song, and Vastra and Jenny, does
Clara not count as an open LGBT companion because she never
declared "I'M BISEXUAL!" while very casually and openly bragging
about hooking up with women?

The link in Anthony's post doesn't work. Did they realize the error and remove the article?

Though I believe if Bill is a lesbian, she will be the first openly gay companion to travel in the TARDIS on a regular basis. The others have been either bi or omni, and not regular companions but more like recurring allies.

And now I'm really hoping the Doctor doesn't regenerate into a woman, unless Bill leaves when or before Capaldi does.

The link doesn't work because of a space.

Jack, River, Vastra, and Jenny weren't 'companions', as such.
Also. Jack was 'Omnisexual', or something that doesn't exist in our century.
Also also, It was Clara's 'past self' Clara Oswin who said she 'went through a phase'...but that was probably just a showrunner's wet dream/inside joke.

I'm fairly certain that the Doctor said that Jack was omnisexual.

Captain Jack traveled with the 9th Doctor from the moment they met until he regenerated. It may have only been five episodes for us. But that shouldn't diminish his status as a companion. We may have only seen the adventures that took place on the five shows. But we heard them reference adventures we hadn't seen. So we have no idea how long they actually may have traveled together.

Jack was "omnisexual, " but they mostly played him as Gay, unlike James Marston's character.

"That's a poodle!!"

The modern Clara hinted on two separate occasions that she had an
affair with Jane Austen.

from https://blogtorwho.com/preview-the-pilot-back-to-b asics-for-doctor-who/
"Steven Moffat titled this episode “The Pilot’ for a specific reason. It is a new start for this long-standing show."
**************
Isn't Moffat leaving? Why a "new start" now? Does he want to be able to put on linkedin or IMDB that he wrote "The Pilot" episode of Doctor Who?

If Missy really was the Master at all... maybe they'll give the Master his own 'River Song' counterpart.

If it is a multi-Master teamup, it would be cool if they brought in a few more.  Buy Eric Roberts a plane ticket to Cardiff.  Grab Derek Jacobi.  Have somebody play the disfigured version.  Maybe get 10 guys we've never seen before to be unseen previous regenerations.

They should have put Bill in a wheel chair, then we would have had almost all of the boxes ticked off.

As for the 2 Masters...it's amazing to me that putting Eric Roberts' Master in the show would actually be a step up.

When Big Finish did their The Two Masters storyline last year (with Geoffrey Beevers and Alex Macqueen) I had a feeling that Moffat would do something similar.

Seems to be a long overdue idea, honestly. The Doctor has worked with
himself...close to half dozen times now?

Moffatt releases a statement saying that at the end of
the first episode, there will be a break in the `Coming
next` trailer with a ten second countdown in which we
are invited to look away if we don`t want to see a huge
spoiler...then this info is released all over the
internet! Grrrr!

Is the two Masters thing the big spoiler, though?

Jacobi felt like the Master at least.  Simm feels like The Riddler.

Moffatt has almost totally destroyed my Dr. Who fandom.  Every time he posts something on social media, I feel less inclined to watch.  I used to go to fantastic lengths to watch Dr. Who.  In the 80s we had Dr. Who clubs in the UK who had NTSC/PAL decks and we'd trade tapes with them.  These days I would jump through some digital hoops to see the shows right away.  (Thanks again to UK computer-savvy friends).

But I'm inclined to just wait until the entire series shows up on Netflix or whatever.  I love Capaldi, and think he was a great person to play the Doctor.  The burnt-out rocker persona works for me, but holy heck has he been given some absolute dreck to perform.  (Same with Matt Smith really).

Sigh.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

To me Simm comes off as a cross between the Joker and the Riddler.

I hate that they explained away the Master's madness (making the Time Lords responsible for him being nuts), because it made him slightly sympathetic. Him being friends with the Doctor prior to going crazy actually adds a bit of Two-Face to the mix.

Why do writers feel the need to explain away evil? Neither the Joker or the Master were batcrap nuts until someone eventually decided they were, long after they were created by other people. Both were just simply evil rat bastards at first. (And frankly, I prefer the Master as just plain evil.)

(Making the Untempered Schism the reason the Master is nuts, plus the drumbeat in his head, makes me wonder if the reason the Doctor left Gallifrey is to find a cure for the Master's insanity....)

Which didn't happen at all. Simms does appear briefly though.

Ok, so Bill is not the "girl with a star in her eye." I will apologize and give Moffatt another chance.
