Long before 'real-life courtroom shows' became a TV genre in the post-O.J, '90s, the original 'People's Court' had a 12-year run, with kindly old Judge Wapner laying down the small-claims law, and Doug Llewellyn interviewing the winning and losing sides(often the highlight of the show). It really was a different time, as cases tended to be about neighbors suing over loans, issues with dogs doing their business on others' properrty, or landlord-tenant stuff. None of the 'Ooh, NO you DIDN'T!' histrionics of later shows.

RIP

I thought he was excellent on THE PEOPLE'S COURT - the show was a favorite for many years.

I was a People's Court fan when Wapner was the judge, and even with Ed Koch, but the version with Judge Judy's husband was almost unwatchable. While Judge Milian is awesome, I prefer Hot Bench and Paternity Court for my tv court fixes these days.

The reason it was unwatchable with Jerry Sheindlin was because he came off far too mean. I mean even worse than his wife, and I didn't think that was possible!

R.I.P., Judge Wapner.

P.S. I even watched the show Animal Court that he did for a couple of years.
