Over in the DS9 thread, I mentioned the homage to ANIMAL HOUSE in the "Qpid" episode of TNG (Geordi is plucking away on the madolin or whatever, Worf grabs it, smashes it, says, "Sorry").

But there seem to be at least three possbile references to THE PRINCESS BRIDE, as well.

SIR GUY: I'll have you know I'm the greatest swordsman in all of Nottingham.
PICARD: Very impressive. There's something you should know.
SIR GUY: And what would that be?
PICARD: I'm not from Nottingham.

("There's something you should know...I'm not left-handed!")

Picard: Mystery. It is the mystery of Tagus Three that brings us together today.

("Marriage. Marriage is what brings us together today.")

Q: You would have me stand idly by as she lead you to your destruction?
PICARD: Yes!
Q: As you wish.

(Which would mean Q is secretly in love with Picard. Which kinda makes sense)

Intentional references? Coincidence?

Coincidentally, I was just musing this morning on how fans (and not fans) have been able to excavate all kinds of "hidden meanings" from my work. Thing is, it's basically bad science: if one begins with a premise, and then looks for evidence to support that premise, one if bound to find that evidence -- whether it exists or not!

The archaeologists around da Vinci's Last Supper in recent years have gone way out of their way to get things to "fit".
