Most of us, I'm sure, spend time thinking about how different our lives might have been if, at certain points, we had zigged instead of zagged. My life is no different, but sometimes I am boggled when I start to tote up the significant crossroads.

What if I...

...had stayed in England?

...hadn't moved around so much when I was in my formative years?

...hadn't started reading comics?

...hadn't produced my own comic as a First Year project in College?

...had moved to the States, to become Dan Adkin's assistant circa 1972?

...hadn't hooked up with Charlton?

...hadn't by sheer chance been assigned to IRON FIST?

...hadn't gone from there to another partnership with Chris Claremont, X-MEN?

...hadn't accepted the offer to switch to FANTASTIC FOUR?

...hadn't left to do Superman?

...hadn't struck out into the uncharted waters of creator ownership?

And, if I can be angry for a moment, hadn't taken a whole string of cheats and liars at their word?

If,in 1978 i hadn`t got an after school/Saturday job
in a butcher`s shop, how would my life have turned out?
I met my future wife at that job,her father got me a
job where he worked,i in turn helped write the
application for the job that my wife has held since
1982,when i was made redundant after 25 years due to
the firm closing at Christmas 2015,i applied for a job
in a branch of the company my wife works for(she
didn`t know i applied) i got the job and have been
there over a year and am happy and appreciated in my
new job.To think that at nearly 15 i got that first
job to earn money to ask my childhood crush out on a
date, she moved away...but it lead to a different path!
The mind truly boggles! Nearly 40 years later and i`ve
been with my wife for 36 years...that one step in 1978
lead me down this particular road!

"What if I...had stayed in England?"

"Good morning, Prime Minister."

I was born with a rare birth anomaly. I've often wondered who I would be, and what my life would be like, if I had been born "normal".

JB: "...hadn't left to do Superman?"

It's entirely possible I wouldn't even be a comic book fan!

This is my biggest fantasy, that I could go back and do
things differently, knowing what I know now.

If someone could figure out a way to give "live and
learn" experience ahead of time, that would be great. It
seems like an elder giving his advice only goes so far.

I'm about to make a choice which will completely change my life. Up until now I've pretty much just let life happen to me and I have floated through reasonably comfortably. It's actually very scary making a conscious choice to change something.

"...hadn't started reading comics?"

Well, I would have had a few thousand dollars extra at my disposal! :)

But for some university computer randomly assigning me a dorm room 31 years ago, I would not ever have met the woman who became my wife and... I can't even begin to think how different my life would be right now.

It is the small things just like the one Michael Penn mentions that fascinate me the most. The seemingly small, inconsequential activities that have had a huge impact on my life. It reminds me of the car accident scene from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

I too wonder about these things at times, especially
when it comes to the Army and choosing between Florida
and New jersey, but all roads lead to Toni Ann and my
girls, and I thank God for that every day.

I got to meet John Byrne too, so I guess things worked
out!
