Since the guy who wrote X-Men 3 is making this movie, I got curious and wanted to see what his thoughts on that movie were. I found this article:

http://collider.com/simon-kinberg-regrets-x-men-the-last-sta nd/

"No, I would have fought harder for The Dark Phoenix. Listen, I think if we made that movie today, there are a lot of things that would be different. The universe today, culturally, is more open to a darker superhero film. And the darkness of her story was a little bit daunting on a huge $200 million studio movie. And, it would be less daunting today."

That's exactly what was wrong with X-Men 3! It wasn't DARK enough! This guy gets it!

Looking at that trailer, I too wondered if this is a remake of THE LAST STAND.

Definitely not watching this.

Can't wait for Marvel studios to start making good x-men movies.

This is the last of the Fox X-Men movies, right? If not, can it be?

For some inexplicable reason, Fox is forging ahead with GAMBIT.

Yeah, GAMBIT, MULTIPLE MAN, and X-FORCE are all still in the Fox production pipeline.  And that NEW MUTANTS movie is going to be released next year.

It should be noted that DARK PHOENIX had its date pushed again, off of that February 14th date announced in that less than a week old trailer into the summer. NEW MUTANTS has had multiple delays as well. I can foresee the unproduced X-Men movies getting pushed into oblivion.

I dunno. They could reshoot Dark Phoenix with Hugh Jackman reprising Wolverine. Make him the romantic lead. The 100 year age difference between him and Sophie Turner might get audiences to show up. Or not.

This is being pretty universally read as a bad thing, but isn't a June release date a greater sign of studio confidence in a film than a February one?

DEADPOOL and BLACK PANTHER were both released on the weekend around Valentineís Day, so I think Fox was considering it a prime release date. They opted to give that date to James Cameronís ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL to get that movie away from the crowded Christmas time release date.

...how is it possible that the best X-Men story ever (and one of the best stories Marvelís ever published) will have had not one, but TWO completely fubared movie adaptations within a 13-year span?

Fox never intended to follow the X-Men source material.... Singer and co. already thought they could write better stories.

Marvel Studios should be able to deliver a better product.
