I am reminded of Daniel Craig's declarations of no more
Bond, then the carrot of a big paycheck us dangled before
him! But if Jackman does return, the age gap between him
and the current Jean is a bit much.

Jackman was badly cast as Wolverine. Too tall, too pretty.

I would be delighted to see the Studio challenge the audience with a Wolverine who looked like Baretta rather than Dirty Harry.

A faithful adaptation would require more than three years of story (X-MEN 100 thru 138) to be compressed into about two hours of screen time.
What are the odds?

So true - and as I've often mentioned here, ideally a TV series works best. Look how well the framework of THE WALKING DEAD and GAME OF THRONES has worked.

X-MEN could really build this epic storyline well using a similar format.

* Agree also that casting Wolverine in the future should be closer to actor Robert Blake rather than a Hugh Jackman clone.

Just watched Kinberg's Fantastic Four on Netflix...my
expectations were not high, but this film managed to delve
to subterranean levels.

Somehow I missed that it was THAT director. Any whisper of hope disappears. And this thread goes on IGNORE.

Kinberg didn't direct Fantastic Four. Josh Trank did and I don't see him getting any big films again for a long time, if ever. This is the first film that Kinberg has ever directed though which doesn't seem very hopeful either and he is listed in the screenplay credits of that horrible FF movie. He also helped write X-men: The Last Stand (which I mistakenly called X-Men United in my earlier post... oops), so he's essentially adapting the same story again after doing it so poorly in the Last Stand. WTF?

I didn`t say Kinberg directed Fantastic Four,just
mentioned his involvement(i should have made it clear
that he was on the writing team),the fact that he`s been
given the job of writing AND directing the new X-Men
film by Fox mystifies me! Why is it beyond these people
tp make a straight adaption? As a fan,i don`t want `Body
horror` or `grounded` superheroes,unless said characters
are `grounded` in their comic, like Daredevil.
The fact that in the new FF film the characters saw
their new abilities as afflictions not superpowers made
me despair!

King erg is a mystery to me. I hate his X-Men and Fantastic Four and yet he is in the mix with Rebels. I assume he is limited there though

Not sure without looking it up if he`s involved with New
Mutants, but from what i`ve read, there will be no
uniforms and it will be a horror...

Kingberg has co-written a few decent X-Men films IMO (First Class, Days of Future Past, although that one had little to do with the comic but was okay) as well as the worst (The Last Stand). And I really enjoyed his Rebels stuff. Maybe he should stick with Star Wars.

And, good lord, at that New Mutants take, Bill. Ugh.

I was just clarifying that he's not directing for JB, although I guess he's ignoring this thread now. Not sure that I blame him though as this film is probably going to stink.

Yes Shane, like Fantastic Four 2015,the New Mutants
powers are afflictions not abilities, which totally
misses the point.
I`m not sure if you know, but in the U.K. there is a
father of a disabled girl who has created a comic
starring his girl and other disabled children called The
Department of Ability, who use there disabilities for
good.I know which i`d prefer to see turned into a tv
series/film.

*****

I won't apologize for it...I had no idea that a Dark Phoenix movie was happening. I guess I succeeded in decoupling my brain from the Singer X-franchise more completely than I thought.

In any case, Charles, I could not agree with you more!

I think the only good thing I can see about this is the possibility for more royalty checks for JB.

Spotted at this week's Licensing Show in Vegas -

Fox has dropped the "X-Men" part of the movie's name, referring to it simply as Dark Phoenix. When the Disney/Fox merger becomes a done deal,  I wonder how the X-Men franchise will be rebooted by Marvel Studios. Hope it's a FULL reboot that starts from scratch with the original 5 students.

Thoughts?

That's what I'd like to see. Would fans care enough without Wolverine?

They should've just made the X-Men 3 movie better in the first place... more like the comic with a flame-bird, a sacrifice at the end, but definitely not killing Cyclops or Prof. X.

I remember my first reaction to Hugh Jackman as Wolverine was he looked like Teen-Wolv... too young and pretty indeed, but he actually did a great job and that impressed me.

I think they've already done the early '60s founding of the 'first class' of X-Men, or did that now 'not happen' either? I can hear Jon Anderson of Yes saying "get it right!"

To me, Fox never did the X-MEN franchise justice... even with FIRST CLASS.

I hope Marvel Studios wipes the slate clean and starts the same was Stan and Jack did. End the first movie with the the graduation of the first class and recruitment of the new team (after credit scene).

And please, can we have Xavier, scion of a Boston family, NOT be played by a Brit?

I wonder, had Patrick Stewart not been the most prominent bald actor with an intellectual vibe to him at the time the X-Men film was first cast, would another actor cast have been either an American, or someone from another country who played the character as an American? The decision to cast Stewart seems to have been based mostly on appearance.

Matt H. - And perhaps they cast Patrick Stewart because he could act his way out of a vault sealed in a swimming pool full of cement. Because even being British, he could do a passable accent as Professor Xavier.

James McAvoy may be a fine actor - I've seen him in roles where I didn't dislike him - but I think he is pure awful as Professor X. That doesn't necessarily reflect on him - badly directed in a bad production wouldn't make things any better - but honestly, I think he did a fine American accent in "Wanted", so I don't understand the pure London accent in First Class, DoFP, or Apocalypse.

Especially with scenes in FIRST CLASS that show that he grew up in Westchester County, New York.

Don't believe Comcast will stop the merger. Disney's $52 billon deal includes Disney STOCK. Sounds better than what Comcast offered to me.
