Eric J. - the Seigel and Swan Legions stories were, quite often, pretty enjoyable. Then Jim Shooter started writing some and the Legion took a colossal step up (intentional... :) )
Post-Crisis, for one unknown reason or another, they TRIED to put the Legion into the same situation as Hawkman, Wonder Girl, etc. - "Superboy never existed! What could we base the Legion on? No more multiple universes!"
First, we saw Supergirl in the post-Crisis universe and I can't imagine that wasn't incidental - so it was a clue. Which probably got steam rollered in the chicken-head-missing scramble after the COIE.
And weirdest of all - why couldn't the Legion have been inspired by Power Girl? Seemed dirt simple to me...
Still love me the Legion, but sometimes, it seemed DC went out of their way to isolate them... and then, DC did it AGAIN after the Pu-52!
