Uh, I'm an ignoramus about Dr. Who and James Bond, among many other myriad things. But Charlize Theron is already playing a super-spy in the Atomic Blonde. The faux-feminists should all watch that and make it the next James Bond, instead of eviscerating an established franchise.

I was going to say have her cameo in the current Bond series and then spin off on her own OR better yet, just start something new. No need to rely on a installed-fanbase that automatically thinks it's gonna suck to start the pre--release-hype-hate.

Don't need a new version of ANY character.

Wasn`t Jinx played by Halle Berry supposed to get her
own movie spin off? How could a female Bond work? We
were discussing this at work, transpose Bond`s
characteristics onto a female and they become a slut.

There are people who've not been happy about the Doctor having a Scottish accent (McCoy/Capaldi). Some like the Doctor to be 'old', some like 'young'.

All of these things are limits they've put on the character. The gender to me is another limit. The show is not about limits.

And of course, the first regeneration wasn't even considered as such. It was a 'rejuvenation'. The producers changed their minds later. It wasn't 12 regenerations until Tom Baker's time.

Anyone saying anything about the show has always been thus and musn't change from what what is was needs to look to see what they are basing that on.

Which is the limiting, sexist mindset that demonstrates exactly why something like this is needed in our culture to challenge the hypocritical nature of out of date and stereotypical thoughts.

There it is folks! Strapping some boobs on James Bond -- instead of creating a new, independent female character -- will save the World!

Pretty much.

So, how come, after all the complaints about EVERYTHING else when Moffat was 'DW' show-runner, the 'gender-swapping has been a thing in Doctor Who for either 5 minutes or 50 years, time-wimey' idea, which was  basically put in place to help Chibnall, is suddenly the best possible move to help 'save' the show?

It's weird. Personally, from the Doctor
Who I've watched, this could be a place
where the gender swap could work. The
problem is, the slippery slope that can
come from it. Where a case could be made
here, although the, renewal, argument is a
good explanation for "why not?", there
really isn't a good case for gender
swapping someone like James Bond, except,
"because we can". That happens in too many
cases these days.

All I'm saying is that I remember that "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." was a guy, and "The Girl from U.N.C.L.E." was a gal... not another guy. Or vice versa.

A woman might be 007. But she should never be James Bond. (And no, I guess 007 should never be anyone but Bond... so make a woman 005. The previous one died in "Octopussy", I believe... so notwithstanding all those goddamned continuity changes, the position is available. :)

Who is saying it is the best possible move to save the show? I just think it's about time they either did it or flat out said it can't be done.

Come to that though, who is saying the show needs saving? Ratings are down but ratings are down for terrestrial TV shows in the UK across the board. But it's secure for several more years I'd say. And even without a TV show, Doctor Who as a thing, survives just fine anyway.
