For me it's all about story and the acting. I don't' really care who plays a
fictional character as long as they're good at it.

There are so many articles and videos made about this, it's all out there. No need to name the top 20.

Firstly, this is John's forum and really a place to celebrate his work and get insight directly from the source. I don't know if it's really worth it to discuss topics that heavy here.

Star Wars has a fervent following and has been over-run by the fanboy army. Part of that- is the group that is in denial- they would rather read about Storm Trooper genetic dispositions rather than admit an actor bumped his head and the editors missed it.

Or that whoever wrote the script didn't know what a parsec was and was just using the term for techno-babble. Star Wars is perfect and there is no leeway for criticizing it.

Just because you fix something doesn't mean it wasn't broken.

It's everywhere X-Men first class had a bunch of it too,
Most people missed it and that's fine. You were supposed to. That's the point.
Transformers had it.
5th Element had it.
Independence Day had it.

Read articles about the Phantom Menace and race.
For the die-hards, it's all coincidence and wacky conspiracy theory.
And maybe 'harmless fun'.

Or maybe we're all too sensitive.
Or it's just entertainment and not to be taken seriously as social commentary. And no, the writers are never injecting their personal views in anything. Maybe people's outlook and attitudes have no effect on their judgement and reactions.

Maybe people can't help who they are.

Maybe Christopher Columbus really did discover America.
Maybe the Egyptians really were white...

Maybe life is just satire.
Don't worry about what I think or believe.

I'm just another comic book artist, who's looked at J Byrne's career and work for inspiration. So I joined up like anyone else to see what he's up to and as far as I know, there isn't another artist of his caliber giving direct access online like this.

You really are stating the bleeding obvious when you tell us that this is John's forum.

It's interesting that you don't know whether it's worth discussing such topics, but I'm sure John has the power to close down any threads he thinks are inappropriate.

My two penneth is that it would be a substantially less interesting forum if we were to markedly reduce the scope of discussion to restrict talk to John's work. Our host's body of work is undoubtedly what brings most of us here in the first place, but it is the wider discussion and the involvement of such an intelligent and reasonable body of fellows, I feel, that keeps the wheels spinning on a daily basis.

Clearly many topics we discuss here have been discussed in depth elsewhere.... But like any group of friends, it's nice to discuss things with those you know and respect. Seeing a topic through the filter of your peers is fun. Discussion, it's interesting. Like a message board, or something.

I've had more than one topic banished and a few posts deleted.

I stating it as my reasoning for shying away.
And showing my own awareness.
But you are right.

Maybe the Egyptians really were white...

••

That's on a par with saying Americans are White. Egypt was, for its time, a vast and cosmopolitan nation, drawing upon cultures from all around the Mediterranean. The ruling classes, however, tended to be of Greek origin.

If you want to pick an analogy, pick one that works.

From Day One, this Forum has had a broad mandate. Virtually no topics are forbidden here, and we ask only that people use a little decorum in addressing them. Threads get deleted, posts get deleted, members get the boot, but generally speaking someone has to work really had at it to accomplish the last, and no one has ever been punted "just of disagreeing."

Sadly, there are some tender skinned folk who cannot tolerate the least disagreement, and launch into full attack mode when someone disagrees with them. That's a quick route to a deleted post, or thread, or poster.

Article one, on a random google search

https://www.quora.com/Which-one-from-follows-is-older-Greek- mythology-or-Ancient-Egyptian-mythology

states Egyptian culture predates Greek culture.
My analogies work when not left to semantics.
The first (Native) Americans were...
The founding Americans were.....
Americans today are....
Pure semantics, you know what I meant in regard to historical eras.

Second article:
https://www.quora.com/Did-Ancient-Greece-essentially-rip-off -Ancient-Egypt
And the best is the comment below the article:

"And Greeks did often credit older sources.  It was their modern European fans who left this out."

Or to accurate descriptions of native peoples?

Do you mean Native Egyptians?
Or I should have added the word 'native' in my descriptions for clarity?

Why are you so determined to miss this point? Egypt was -- and is -- a "cultural mosaic", made from many different peoples. Just like the US. One cannot say there was one typifying race, creed or color that was "Egyptian".

Even Hollywood, at its worst, understood that Egypt was a colorful place, not entirely White.
