Very sad to see this. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this
sad time. His was a name that invariably guaranteed a good time
reading comics!

Oh no. So sorry to hear this. He seemed like he could write just about any character well. A true legend.

So sad to lose both Len and Berni Wrightson in the same year.  Swamp Thing is among my all-time favorites.

If I were to list the five most important comics of my childhood (in terms of making me fall in love with the medium and the characters) Justice League #101 would certainly be on that list.  Len managed to juggle sixteen characters in that issue, and most of them had a chance to shine, display their unique personalities, and demonstrate why they were special.  This issue was also my first introduction to the concept of parallel earths, and I loved the idea.  I used to spend hours drawing the individual characters from this issue, none of whom (aside from Superman and Batman) had been familiar to me before I read the story.

Looking back as an adult, perhaps the most remarkable thing is that this issue was the second part of a three-part story featuring about three dozen characters total, and it dealt with parallel earths, yet I was not the least bit confused by it.  And I was five.  Truly a master class in storytelling.

Here's my favorite scene from the issue.  "Give me a minute to think."  Len sure as hell knew how to write Batman:

I can't say anything about him everyone doesn't already know. But I did ask him a question at a panel once! He was a really nice guy.

I was 9 years old and I loved this comic.  Mr. Wein may have made me cry.  I took note of who wrote it and I never forgot.

There has been many writers that can
balance a story as well as Len Wein could.
He seemed to understand how to serve his
artists as well. As comic writers go, he
makes my top three.

He's been very open about his health
issues but it doesn't make this any
easier. I'm crushed, just absolutely
crushed by his passing.

The appearance of DC's Cain was modeled on Len Wein.

Oh, wow, this is a major drag. One of the all-time greats. I was just thinking about his INCREDIBLE HULK run, the other day.

He also wrote THE UNTOLD LEGEND OF THE BATMAN mini, which is still my favorite take on Batman's origin and whatnot, since it pulled together all of the bits and pieces pre-CRISIS lore and weaved them into a coherent and entertaining whole.

A very talented and influential writer and editor.
