The Champions don't get enough love (from myself, too!). There was a topic done about them once. It was hard, even with my less-cynical childhood brain, not to see them as anything other than third-string, akin to substitutes on a soccer bench (who are okay, but not deserving of the A or B teams!).

So let's give them a good opponent to battle, eh? They never seemed to get any major villains, certainly not in the comics I read. Oh, I'm thinking of the original Champions in this topic, from the 1975 17-issue series.

Here are the rules (and it'd be so nice if they could be followed by all):

1.) Pick ONE Marvel opponent. NOT a team, not a duo, not a trio. ONE opponent. He/she must be a villain. Again, Marvel only, not DC, Image, etc.

2.) No honourable mentions, ties, contrived reasons to pick more than one. I have this rule because I think any of us, myself included, can all pick a "laundry list" of names. No, I want people to THINK carefully and come up with just ONE opponent.

Over to you.

For me, my opponent for the Champions would be the Mandarin. The Mandarin's rings provided much opposition for the likes of the Hulk - so Hercules' super-strength may not necessarily be an advantage. Iceman, Black Widow and Angel could be in trouble. Not sure how Ghost Rider would fare, his supernatural powers may give him the edge (or equalize the situation).

I certainly don't think it'd be the easiest time for the Champions.

The Champions are a favorite. I've read the series over many times.

Robbie your pick is perfect. Just seems a natural fit.

I'll go with Taskmaster.
He would have to devise ways to divide and conquer.
Hercules would be a tough one for him.

Mephisto, because:

- Like Hercules, he's a mythic creature.
- Angel vs the Devil.
- Fire vs Ice.
- The assassin meets the guy she's sent a lot of "packages" to.
- And of course he (or some version of him?) created the Ghost Rider

I like the idea of the Sandman against The Champions. Somewhere down the line I can just picture the Angel flapping his wings hard enough to keep the Sandman from regathering himself back together.

Now for my second and third choices....

I've never read this title, so I hope I picked someone that hadn't appeared.

Super Skrull.

I've always been partial to Count Nefaria.

I know he is an Avengers baddie...but his raw power makes him a great foil for Hercules....and the rest of the team.
