Robbie - you're thinking of Goofy.

Goofy? Is that the donkey? Or horse?
Sorry for thread drift (my fault!). On the topic, I do think the original team were the most esoteric team ever. The Defenders (not really a team) were very different, but they all had a common thread (loners). The Champions, well can you get any different than a Greek god, a motorcycle-riding supernatural character, a female spy and two mutants?

Graviton.
Like The Champions, he never got enough love, either. The FF have Dr. Doom, the Avengers have Count Nefaria, Alpha Flight has The Master, etc.
I think Graviton would (a) certainly give them a run for their money in the power department and (b) he just seems like a natural fit; a great villain who never really found his footing against a team put together from mismatched backgrounds.

The closest we got to the Champions was the New Defenders - three former X-Men, Moondragon, Valkyrie and Gargoyle. I seem to recall there wasn't much love for this team either, but I always had a soft spot for them. Again, very few big hitting villains came their way.

Robbie had it correct. Pluto is the dog. Goofy was a cow but mostly undetermined.

I have always liked Graviton. His first appearance against the Avengers was a great story. He actually whooped the Avengers pretty easily.....mostly he was self defeated and forgotten for so long. It would have been great if he made more appearances.

This was the first time I'd read a story with Graviton and I loved it.

That cover makes the comic look like a ton of fun. Sadly the present market wouldn't use something like it but for purposes of parody or "nostalgia".

Clarabelle was a cow and Goofy's sometime girlfriend, but Goofy is usually thought of as a dog. The Goofy design was originally used for a character called Dippy Dawg.

Goofy a dog? I always assumed he was a horse or donkey. He walks differently to Pluto.

Oh my god, Robbie, what have we unleashed?
I don't even know how to get THIS thread back on course except... maybe... an evil Lockjaw could take out the Champions? I mean, a teleporter could be pretty bad ass... oh, I got it! The Vanisher! He even had a little history with the X-Men!
Yeah, I know - I already had my pick. Just felt a little obligated to return things to the right path... :)
