This is just another reason why I love science - and why the universe continues to inspire awe in me:

I feel privileged to be alive.

As a kid, the universe had much mystique. Sure, we knew things - but Pluto, one of my favourite planets, was the mysterious blue dot that got a few lines at the back of a science book; and whilst terms like "dark matter" and "multiverse" no doubt were coined long before I was born, I didn't hear them used.

Now, we know so much. Pluto has lost its mystique. We're sending probes further and further. And we may get a person to Mars in my lifetime.

Diamond rain on Uranus and Neptune? Fascinating. Even STAR TREK didn't give us that, right?

The cool thing is that 50 years from now, people will be amazed by the lack of knowledge we had in the early 21st century.
