What are your three favourite medical practitioners on TV?

Please, ONLY three (no ties, honourable mentions or contrived reason to include more than three). All must have been in a TV series. Any era is fine.

Can we stick to earth-based and realistic dramas so as to avoid numerous Starfleet doctors and the like dominating the topic. And can we keep it superhero-free, too (otherwise Doctor Doom may keep showing up!). And, finally, hospital or surgery-based characters, please, so no doctors of philosophy or doctors of archaeology. ;-)

I've specified medical practitioners so you can include nurses, doctor's receptionists, porters, etc. Hell, you can pick an administrator or bureaucrat if you want.

Here are mine:

Charge Nurse Charlie Fairhead from CASUALTY, which has been running on the BBC since 1986. A linchpin of the emergency department, Charge Nurse Fairhead has held the department together, feared and respected by doctors and nurses alike.

Gregory House, from HOUSE, is my second choice. I'd hate his bedside manner and would describe him as an arrogant sod behind his back, but if I had a medical problem, I'd want him on the case.

Dr. Al Robbins from CSI is my third and final choice. He's thorough, exceptional and I found all of his scenes to be compelling.

Over to you.

Just to clarify...I assume a show that featured vampires would not count as realistic drama?

#1 House - Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House
#2 The Good Docter - Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy (I know, only 3 episodes so far, but I really like it)
#3 Diagnosis Murder - Dick Van Dyke as Dr. Mark Sloan (pretty much DVD in anything)

Yes, Gregory, that's fine. They are medical professionals.

Just, like I said, no doctors of archaeology or nuclear physicists. ;-)

Oh, Laren, I am sure you don't need me to answer that. ;-)

House
Hawkeye
Turk

When Cigna had Alan Alda and Donald Faison in the same commercial/PSA recently ("Doctor poses!"), I determined I'd totally watch a show that had Hawkeye and Turk in it...but if, and only if...they called it HAWKEYE AND TURK.

Great topic, Robbie!

Dr. Gregory House - Really miss this show even if it did kind of go downhill in the latter seasons. The best thing about the show were House's zingers. I'd recommend the show Chance to fans of House. Hugh Laurie is playing a psychiatrist that deals in patients of trauma. As a neo noir it's darker than House, but Laurie really shines in it, playing a damaged character not totally dissimilar to House.

Dr. John "Thack" Thackery - It's a shame more viewers didn't get to see The Knick. Not sure why HBO chose to have this on Cinemax as it was much more of an HBO show. The two seasons of Clive Owen as Thack on the Knick are two of my favorite seasons of any show ever. Like a brilliant 20 hour movie by director Steven Soderbergh with Owen playing the part of his career, Thack a brilliant but drug addicted doctor, and a wonderful supporting cast on a show set in the early 1900's at the forefront of what would become modern medicine. Thackery was loosely based on Dr. William Stewart Halsted.

Dr. Joel Fleischmann - Really loved Northern Exposure though it went downhill pretty quickly, especially after Rob Morrow who played Fleischmann left the show to be a movie star, which didn't work out particularly well for him as he ended up back on TV just a few years later on Numbers.

No Order.

Dr. Kelly Brackett- EMERGENCY! That voice of his, wow.

Dr. Marcus Welby- There was a couple of years there when I watched his show religiously.

Dr. Mark Craig- ST. ELSEWHERE. He nailed that character.

"Hawkeye" Pierce (Alan Alda)
Dr. Jeffrey Geiger of Chicago Hope (Mandy Patinkin)
Father Joseph McCabe of St. Eligius (Edward Herrman) McCabe showed up in exactly three episodes of "St. Elsewhere" ("Time Heals pts. 1 & 2" and the next season opener) as the man who founded the hospital and ran it until being reassigned by the church in the 1960's.

There are so many others I'd like to name, of course. Medical shows have been a staple of television from the get-go. What next? Who are your three favorite TV law enforcement officials? So many to choose from...

Doctor Foster- Not sure if this series has made it across to the UK yet but a tour de force. Probably a terribly doctor though.

Doctor Watson - I appreciate this is in the TV forum but, as the title is not specific on genre, I'm going from the original literary version. Not allowed? The I'll take David Burke / Edward Hardwicke's Watson from the Jeremy Brett run.

Billy Cartwright - A minor character in UK detective series, Vera, but Paul Ritter's pathologist is one of my favourite TV performances ever.

Dr. Mark Greene

Shit. Missed the “realistic drama”. However, I’ve been told by MANY MDs I’ve worked with that SCRUBS is the truest to life medical show they’ve ever seen.

Just realised that I had accidentally added Robbie to my ignore list so only saw the title and not the instructions hence my slightly odd comments.

Apologies, Robbie, although think my list still stands.

Genuinely an accident - I've done it before, probably when working from my phone. I realised what I'd done when I saw you quoted elsewhere but could not see your original post.
