Not sure about keeping the cracks and pops etc,is that
not like looking at an old master in an art gallery with
years of grime obscuring the details? Restoration and
cleaning is done for a reason!

Hmmm, some may argue that is the appeal; others, like myself, may argue that some restoration is better.

Not that it's ever that black and white.

I hate the tinkering Lucas has done with STAR WARS. But I liked the restorative work some DVD distributors did with various Gerry Anderson shows. Not that either of those examples equate to what we're discussing here, but I am the master of going off on a tangent. :/

Years ago I bought a "Sons of the Pioneers" CD, and the first sound it produced was the tsst tsst tsst of a needle on vinyl. I loved it!

There's no easy way to formulate an opinion on it. It depends very much on the song/the nostalgia. But I can understand why that would appeal, yes.

Since this is a library trying to make its collection more publicly available, I think replicating the same experience one would have when borrowing one of the records from the collection is most appropriate.
