The rules for this one are simple: choose six villains and come up with a DC version of "The Sinister Six".

They must be villains. If they're anti-heroes who have a loose alliance with law enforcement, then let's keep away from that.

They can be ANY villain, though. A Superman villain, a Batman villain, etc.

Just ONE team, please, consisting of six characters. No comments akin to "I'd have a back-up team and here are my other six..."

And please nominate a leader for your "Sinister Six" even if they are only a titular one.

Go!

Here are mine:

Brainiac (Leader)
Poison Ivy
Rainbow Raider
Doctor Double X
Shockwave
The Fadeaway Man

By the way, I only came across Shockwave once in an 80s issue of BLUE DEVIL. I haven't seen the character since, no idea if he was a one-off. But I loved the look of him. And his powers, too:

By the way, Rainbow Raider, Doctor Double X, Shockwave and Fadeaway Man are indulgent on my part. Some may not even know them (I haven't seen them featured in any modern tales, no idea if they are still used). But they gave me a lot of pleasure. I read a great Fadeaway Man tale where Hawkman and Batman took him on; there's a 60s Doctor Double X tale I love; and Rainbow Raider was always a favourite. I'd have liked to have seen more of Shockwave.

I should add the Brainiac I am thinking of is the post-CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS version that our host worked on.

Can Mr Byrne please write and draw a tale featuring my choices?

Too much homework, Robbie! I only know two of them.

I think it will be difficult to come up with too many variations that don't duplicate existing villainous DC teams, especially those with ties to law enforcement. There are a couple iterations of the Secret Society of Super-Villains that seem just about perfect as they already are. Still, I'll roll the dice and try to come up with a team that's spiritually in the mold of the Sinister Six...

Robot Brainiac (Marv Wolfman/Ed Hannigan version)
Rag Doll
Psycho-Pirate
Black Manta
Gentleman Ghost
Shadow Thief

When I think of the Sinister Six, I think of a group of basically high tech hoodlums who got together for one purpose - to dispose of Spider-Man. They didn't want to take over the world, they didn't want to run the gangs of New York... they just wanted to rob, some mayhem, eliminate Spider-Man, and thugs just want to have fun.

So, that being set...

Professor Hugo Strange (leader)
Clayface (Matt Hagen)
Blackrock
Black Manta
Poison Ivy
Star Sapphire

As that's a pretty potent team, I believe I'd set them against one of the original Teen Titans teams - Robin, Wonder Girl, Speedy, Aqualad, and the Hawk and the Dove.

In alphabetical order…

1) Black Adam - because when the group inevitably descends into chaos due
to infighting, I'd like to see how he would fare against #4

2) Black Manta - because he has the coolest voice of any cartoon villain…
EVER

3) Giganta - because she — ———— —— ——

4) Professor Zoom - because few things are scarier than the idea of an evil
Flash

5) Sinestro - because few things are scarier than the idea of an evil Lantern

6) Ultra-Humanite - because he's a super genius who implanted his brain into
a mutated gorilla body

Oh, and the Ultra-Humanite would be leader because he's a super genius who
implanted his brain into a mutated gorilla body!

Okay, I'm going to be very literal about this!  Who are the DC equivalents of the original SS?  My team would be--

Black Manta (vague visual mix of Doc Ock and Mysterio)
Mr. Freeze (ditto)
Clayface (a good choice for a Sandman stand-in)
Killer Moth (DC has a lot more winged heroes than villains like the Vulture)
Lightning Lord (time-traveling to pinch hit for Electro)
Huntress (the Golden Age original villainess in for Kraven the hunter)

The Flash pretty much did this back in the Sixties with "The Gauntlet of Super-Villains".

The DCU guide lists 17 appearances for Shockwave.
