This made me smile:

The red looks pretty good on the FF.

Doctor Doom's colours look, well, I shall keep my mouth shut!

Interesting mindset that assumed Cap and Thor were bare-legged.

And how on earth do you get Batman's colours wrong? He is perhaps, at least back then, the second-most recognizable and ubiquitous superhero (Superman would have been first). The Adam West show was on the air. As was countless merchandise.

I wouldn't expect the person responsible for colouring to necessarily know Iron Man or Cap, but if you fuck up Batman's colours, that's a depressing thought!

Similar things happened with scripts, writers working with the barest minimum of information if adapting something. Case in point: a 60s STAR TREK comic had Spock saying that aliens had made his skin crawl. Can't imagine a logical Vulcan saying, "Those beings make my skin crawl." Can you?

I've seen that bare legged Captain America before. Odd!

It did make me smile. The best guess I can make - and I can't vouch for my guesses - is that because quite a few were wearing trunks back then, they just assumed everyone was.

As for those bare legs on Cap, they look pale. Must be the cold weather, perhaps he was in Scotland!

I liked it when Johnny Storm wore a red version of his
costume in the comics in the 70`s,it suited his Human
Torch status!

I remember that red costumed FF.
Anyone remember the time Marvel UK went through a spate of colours that were not in synth? Terrible comics

Whether they were printed at Eddie Shah’s printing press I have no idea

I remember the early issues of The Mighty World of Marvel comic in the 1970s had a really strong smell. I don't know what the printers were putting in there but you could almost get high on sniffing those comics.

I owned that first Fantastic Four comic album and I actually enjoyed the different colours!

(I have a vague memory of early 60's Batman adventures being published in the Italian magazine "Nembo Kid" (for that was Superman's name in Italy at the time) where the grey in Batman's costume was coloured red).

I have Googled colouring errors, but Google images (and I've phrased it in many ways) seems to just bring up colouring books images.

Marvel went through  a number of phases with colour. There was the initial phase, the Captain Britain phase and then there was a phase in the early to mid '80's when they tried again.

Pages were coloured in blue highlights and then there were some comics where the different colours were mis-aligned. Really weird

Now you mention it, I have vague memories of a reprint of a Spider-Man/Hobgoblin tale which is what you describe.

I never understood it as a kid when American comics seemed to do it so well. Why couldn't the UK comics? Confused me as a teenager
